The interest in the antineoplastic and binding properties shown by the bis-maltol polyamine family, particularly Malten and Maltonis, prompted us to study the Pd complexes of these latter from both a biological and metallo-receptor point of view. The Malten-Pd complex can lodge hard species such as Sr in its coordination-driven preorganized pocket, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction. UV-Vis and NMR data showed that Malten-Pd forms even at acidic pH and exists in aqueous solution in a wide range of pH.

The histone deacetylase sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) has been endowed with anti-cancer capabilities in many tumor types. Here, we investigate the impact of SIRT6-overexpression (SIRT6-OE) in Delta16HER2 mice, which are a bona fide model of HER2-positive breast cancer. After an initial delay in the tumor onset, SIRT6-OE induces a more aggressive phenotype of Delta16HER2 tumors promoting the formation of higher number of tumor foci and metastases than controls.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a postinfectious sequela of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), with some clinical features overlapping with Kawasaki disease (KD). Our research group and others have highlighted that the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 can trigger the activation of human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs), which in turn induces inflammatory and immune reactions, suggesting HERVs as contributing factors in COVID-19 immunopathology.
