Background: The global health crisis of obesity has prompted a need for better indicators of abdominal obesity than body mass index, with sagittal abdominal diameter emerging as a potential candidate. Nonetheless, the association between sagittal abdominal diameter-to-height ratio (SADHtR) and mortality remains inadequately established. Our objective was to contribute novel evidence to this association.

Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is regarded as an important risk factor for obesity-related diseases. The results of the association between VAT and total testosterone (TT) are controversial and whether this association is nonlinear is still unknown. 3971 male participants who were aged 20-59 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys 2011-2016 were included.

Article Synopsis
  • Duct-dependent congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are serious heart problems that are hard to find, especially in poorer places.
  • Researchers collected 6,698 images and 48 videos to create a new computer program called DDCHD-DenseNet that helps find these heart problems.
  • The program showed really good results, which means it could be used to help doctors automatically check for heart issues and could even work for other heart problems in babies.

A global survey indicates that genetic syndromes affect approximately 8% of the population, but most genetic diagnoses can only be performed after babies are born. Abnormal facial characteristics have been identified in various genetic diseases; however, current facial identification technologies cannot be applied to prenatal diagnosis. We developed Pgds-ResNet, a fully automated prenatal screening algorithm based on deep neural networks, to detect high-risk fetuses affected by a variety of genetic diseases.

With the advancement of medicine, more and more researchers have turned their attention to the study of fetal genetic diseases in recent years. However, it is still a challenge to detect genetic diseases in the fetus, especially in an area lacking access to healthcare. The existing research primarily focuses on using teenagers' or adults' face information to screen for genetic diseases, but there are no relevant directions on disease detection using fetal facial information.

Article Synopsis
  • Brigatinib's effectiveness and safety compared to other ALK inhibitors are still not fully understood due to a lack of head-to-head trials.
  • A systematic review identified nine randomized controlled trials involving 2484 patients and analyzed outcomes like progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
  • Results showed that brigatinib significantly improved PFS and overall response rate when compared to crizotinib and ceritinib, while its safety profile was similar to other next-generation ALK inhibitors.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the association between hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in a middle- to older-aged Chinese population.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 9015 participants (age 40-79 years) were recruited and grouped into four phenotypes, as follows: NWNT: normal waist-normal triglyceride; NWET: normal waist-elevated triglycerides; EWNT: elevated waist-normal triglycerides; and hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW). Logistic regression analysis was carried out to assess the associations between HTGW phenotype and NAFLD.

The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype and hypertension. We undertook a cross-sectional study with a sample of 9015 adults from China. The HTGW phenotype was defined as elevated waist circumference (WC) and elevated triglyceride (TG) concentration.

Objectives: To establish the cost-effectiveness of dacomitinib compared to gefitinib from the Chinese healthcare system perspective.

Patients: Advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harbouring epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations.

Methods: Partitioned survival analysis was undertaken to examine the cost-effectiveness of dacomitinib utilising individual patient data (IPD) from the pivotal randomised controlled trial (RCT) (ARCHER 1050).

The selective and efficient capture of phosphopeptides is critical for comprehensive and in-depth phosphoproteome analysis. Here we report a new switchable two-dimensional (2D) supramolecular polymer that serves as an ideal platform for the enrichment of phosphopeptides. A well-defined, positively charged metallacycle incorporated into the polymer endows the resultant polymer with a high affinity for phosphopeptides.

Objectives: To compare efficacy and safety of dacomitinib versus gefitinib as first-line therapy for EGFR mutation-positive advanced NSCLC in Asian patients enrolled in the ongoing ARCHER 1050 trial.

Materials And Methods: In this ongoing, randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial (NCT01774721), eligible patients with newly diagnosed advanced EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC were randomized (1:1) to receive oral dacomitinib 45 mg/day or oral gefitinib 250 mg/day. Randomization, by a central computer system, was stratified by race and EGFR mutation type (exon 19 deletion mutation/exon 21 L858R substitution mutation).

Background: Type 2 diabetes has an underlying pathology with thyroid dysfunction. However, few studies have investigated the association between thyroid hormones and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Our aim was to evaluate the relationship between thyroid hormones and electrophysiological properties of peripheral nerves in type 2 diabetes.

The successful construction of porphyrin functionalized metallacycle in the confined cavity of mesoporous carbon FDU-16 (3⊂C) is presented in this study. Because of high dispersity of metallacycles within the mesoporous cavities, the stability and activity of porphyrin-containing metallacycles were obviously improved. For example, O generation efficiency of 3⊂C is ca.

Relay recognition of copper(ii) ions and biothiols via a fluorescence "on-off-on" cascade was designed and realized as a new sequential combination of cations and small molecules. Probe 1 bearing a fluorescein skeleton was thus synthesized, which performed well in 100% HEPES buffer (pH = 7.0) solution, as a highly sensitive, selective fluorescence sensor for Cu.

The signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway plays critical roles in the pathogenesis and progression of various human cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of physalin A, a bioactive withanolide derived from Physalis alkekengi var. francheti used in traditional Chinese medicine, was evaluated in human NSCLC cells.

Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has been found to display anticancer activity against many types of tumors and has been developed into an anticancer drug in clinical treatments. Sphingolipids are membrane lipids that participate in many signal transduction pathways. In this paper, the changes in sphingolipids of the human multiple myeloma cell line U266 and the gastric cancer cell line MGC-803 treated with arsenic trioxide were investigated using an HPLC-ESI-MS/MS method.
