: Indirect comparison among biologics in severe asthma (SA) is a challenging but desirable goal for clinicians in real life. The aim of the study is to define characteristics of a biologic-treated T2-driven-SA population and to evaluate the effectiveness of biologic treatments in a real-world setting by variation in intra/inter-biologic parameters in an up to 4-year follow-up. : Demographic, clinical, functional, and biological characteristics were evaluated retrospectively in 104 patients recruited until July 2022 at baseline (T0) and over a maximum of 4 years (T4) of biologic therapy (omalizumab/OmaG = 41, from T0 to T4, mepolizumab/MepoG = 26, from T0 to T4, benralizumab/BenraG = 18, from T0 to T2, and dupilumab/DupiG = 19, from T0 to T1).

Objective: Analyzing the available evidence by comparing the role of arthroscopic surgery and conservative treatment in the management of degenerative meniscopathy.

Materials And Methods: A literature search was carried out on the PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and PEDro databases in May 2019 to identify all the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing arthroscopic surgery to conservative management of painful but stable degenerated menisci. The quality of the RCTs was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment.

Background: Penetrating thoracic injuries (PTIs) is a medicosurgical challenge for civilian and military trauma teams. In civilian European practice, PTIs are most likely due to stab wounds and mostly require a simple chest tube drainage. On the battlefield, combat casualties suffer severe injuries, caused by high-lethality wounding agents.

Triage, a medical term derived from the French word "trier", is the practical process of sorting casualties to rationally allocate limited resources. In combat settings with limited medical resources and long transportation times, triage is challenging since the objectives are to avoid overcrowding medical treatment facilities while saving a maximum of soldiers and to get as many of them back into action as possible. The new face of modern warfare, asymmetric and non-conventional, has led to the integrative evolution of triage into the theatre of operations.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is the most common cause of fatal poisoning worldwide and can lead to severe brain damages. We report a delayed encephalopathy after a severe carbon monoxide poisoning with uncommon magnetic resonance imaging findings.

In the battlefield, the majority of casualties die within ten minutes of the trauma. Most injuries result from an explosion and haemorrhage plays a central role. To improve survival rates, the French Army Health Service has developed a chain of survival from the battlefield to France based on prehospital combat casualty care, forward medical support during the first hour and damage control surgery.

We report the medical management of a 32-year-old primigravida, after she was found to have a combined factor V (FV) and factor VIII (FVIII) deficiency during pregnancy. A routine coagulation profile performed during the 6th month of pregnancy showed a prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) of 78 seconds, giving a patient/control ratio of 2.29, combined with a prothrombin time (PT) of 28 seconds.

We report the case of successful management of a transcranial penetrating high-energy transfer injury in a 20-year-old soldier. The bullet traversed both cerebral hemispheres and lacerated the superior sagittal sinus rendering him unconscious. We detail the care received at all stages following injury from 'Buddy Aid' on the battlefield, resuscitation by a forward medical team through to prompt neurosurgery within 2 h of injury.

Background: We compared the subjective quality of pulmonary auscultation between 2 acoustic stethoscopes (Holtex Ideal® and Littmann Cardiology III®) and an electronic stethoscope (Littmann 3200®) in the operating room.

Methods: A prospective double-blind randomized study with an evaluation during mechanical ventilation was performed in 100 patients. After each examination, the listeners using a numeric scale (0-10) rated the quality of auscultation.

We report the case of a 79-year-old patient who presented with a femoral iatrogenic pseudoaneurysm of delayed and unusual onset with immediately life-threatening massive bleeding. Ultrasound is the method of choice for the diagnosis of pseudo aneurysm. If there is not spontaneous closure, ultrasound-guided compression repair, minimally invasive percutaneous treatments, and surgical repair are the three therapeutic options.

A 30-year-old woman with severe preeclampsia presented at 27 weeks of amenorrhea with left headache, neck pain, blurred vision and numbness of left hemiface that resolved spontaneously within 2 hours. A week later, hypertension remained poorly controlled despite combination of nicardipine and labetalol intravenous therapy; an urgent caesarean section was eventually performed due to onset of HELLP syndrome. At day 5 postpartum, the patient had a Horner syndrome with right ipsilateral disabling tinnitus.

Penetrating traumas are rare in France and mainly due to stabbing. Knives are less lethal than firearms. The initial clinical assessment is the cornerstone of hospital care.

Elderly people represent the fastest-growing segment of our society and undergo surgery more frequently than other age groups. Effective postoperative analgesia is essential in these patients because inadequate pain control after surgery is associated with adverse outcomes in elderly patients. However, management of postoperative pain in older patients may be complicated by a number of factors, including a higher risk of age- and disease-related changes in physiology and disease-drug and drug-drug interactions.

Context: Among the adverse events in the blood transfusion process, transfusion to a "wrong" patient is potentially dangerous, as it can lead to an adverse reaction at least in case of ABO incompatible red cell concentrate.

Material And Methods: The "Root Cause Analysis" working party of the National Hemovigilance Commission developed a tool to collect this type of adverse event, and tested it on a sample of 43 cases involving red cell concentrates notified between March, 2009 and February, 2010.

Results: One hundred and nine failures of a step in the transfusion process were observed, i.

Low-pressure tamponade is rare and little known with difficult clinical recognition. We report a case of this pathology in a patient admitted for abdominal severe sepsis. Pericardiocentesis led to identification of Salmonella typhimurium pericarditis.

Amniotic fluid embolism is a relatively rare clinical entity and with difficult medical recognition. However, it is the second leading cause of maternal mortality. We report here the case of a 32-year-old patient who underwent elective caesarean section complicated by an amniotic fluid embolism with cardiac arrest.

Persistent blood flow in aneurysmal sac after bypass-exclusion is well documented in the literature. Aneurysm enlargement, local compressive symptoms and even sac rupture are commonly described complications. Late secondary infection of popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) following ligation and venous bypass is exceptional.

Fungal sepsis is an important cause of fever resistant to antibiotic therapy that is very often taken into marginal account. It should instead be particularly considered in patients with a long history of immune depression such as diabetes or chronic and debilitating diseases. Blood cultures are essential for diagnostic purposes, preferably performed in antibiotic wash-out, since they may allow identification of pathogenic (or opportunistic) fungi responsible for episodes of fungal sepsis.
