Background: Few studies have evaluated racial/ethnic inequities in acute pain control among hospitalized injured children. We hypothesized that there would be inequities in time to pain control based on race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of all injured children (7-18 years) admitted to our level 1 trauma center between 2010 and 2019 with initial recorded numerical rating scale (NRS) scores of >3 who were managed nonoperatively.

Poorly Controlled Pediatric Fracture Pain Requiring Unplanned Medical Assistance or Advice.

Objectives: This study aimed to define the proportion of children who seek assistance for poorly controlled fracture pain, identify factors associated with requesting help, and explore caregivers' opioid preferences.

Methods: We enrolled 251 children and their caregivers in the orthopedic surgery clinic of a tertiary care children's hospital. Children 5 to 17 years old presenting within 10 days of injury for follow-up for a single-extremity, nonoperative long bone fracture(s) were eligible.

Co-activation based parcellation of the human frontal pole.

Historically, the human frontal pole (FP) has been considered as a single architectonic area. Brodmann's area 10 is located in the frontal lobe with known contributions in the execution of various higher order cognitive processes. However, recent cytoarchitectural studies of the FP in humans have shown that this portion of cortex contains two distinct cytoarchitectonic regions.

Latex allergy: implications for oral health care professionals.

The purpose of this article is to educate the dental hygienist about the seriousness of latex allergy and provide background information necessary for treating the latex allergic patient, including basic information on immunology, hypersensitivity reactions, latex, and natural rubber latex. Symptoms of latex allergy, types of reactions, and methods of exposure are discussed. Methods for achieving a minimal latex environment are presented, along with information to treat the patient with latex allergy, which can affect health, career, future, and lifestyle.

Enhancement of isolated airway responses to bronchoconstrictive agonists by the slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis antagonist FPL 55712.

The activity of the SRS-A antagonist FPL 55712 against histamine, carbachol and ion-induced contraction of isolated airway smooth muscle was evaluated. FPL 55712 enhanced responses of guinea-pig trachea and parenchymal lung strips to histamine and carbachol. Enhancement was not obviously related to concentration.

Contraction of isolated airway smooth muscle by synthetic leukotrienes C4 and D4.

The pharmacology of leukotrienes (LT) C4 and D4 in isolated airway smooth muscle was investigated. In rat trachea, neither LTC4 or D4 elicited a response. In contrast, LTC4 was a potent contractile agonist in guinea-pig trachea, bronchus and parenchymal lung strip.
