Background: Cryptococcus neoformans (Cn) causes life-threatening meningoencephalitis in individuals with AIDS. Cn's polysaccharide capsule is mainly composed of glucuronoxylomannan (GXM) and plays a key role in the dysregulation of immunity, resistance to antifungal drugs, and systemic dissemination, including CNS invasion. Although recent studies have begun to elucidate the involvement of microglia in cryptococcosis, our knowledge of these CNS resident phagocytes in the control of cryptococcosis is limited.

Pheochromocytomas (PCCs) are tumors arising from chromaffin cells in the adrenal medulla, and paragangliomas (PGLs) are tumors derived from extra-adrenal sympathetic or parasympathetic paraganglia; these tumors are collectively referred to as PPGL cancer. Treatment for PPGL primarily involves surgical removal of the tumor, and only limited options are available for treatment of the disease once it becomes metastatic. Human carriers of the heterozygous mutations in the succinate dehydrogenase subunit B () gene are susceptible to the development of PPGL.

Citrus is commercially propagated via grafting, which ensures trees have consistent fruit traits combined with favorable traits from the rootstock such as soil adaptability, vigor, and resistance to soil pathogens. Graft incompatibility can occur when the scion and rootstock are not able to form a permanent, healthy union. The cardiovascular system is strongly impacted by the hazards of spaceflight. Astronauts spending steadily increasing lengths of time in microgravity are subject to cardiovascular deconditioning resulting in loss of vascular tone, reduced total blood volume, and diminished cardiac output. Appreciating the mechanisms by which the cells of the vasculature are altered during spaceflight will be integral to understanding and combating these deleterious effects as the human presence in space advances.

Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) is a long-lasting broad-spectrum plant defense mechanism induced in distal systemic tissues by mobile signals generated at the primary infection site. To investigate a Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) mortality event following a red tide bloom in Southwest Florida, an RNA sequencing experiment was conducted. Gene expression changes in white blood cells were assessed in manatees rescued from a red tide affected area (n = 4) and a control group (n = 7) using RNA sequencing.
