For the first time, advanced chemometric models were utilized to determine florescence induced by carbon dots. In an endeavor to regulate anthelmintic drug usage by facilitating the determination of veterinary formulations in animals' biological fluids, a novel fluorometric-assisted chemometric method has been developed for detecting two nonfluorescent drugs, Ivermectin (IVR) and Clorsulon (CLR). The method relies on the linear quenching effect of the drugs on the fluorescence intensity of carbon dots (CDs) synthesized from natural sources.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD) is the most common type of muscular dystrophy, together with Becker muscular dystrophy represent more than half of all cases. DMD is a single-gene, X-linked recessive disorder that predominantly affects boys, causing progressive muscle deterioration and eventually leading to fatal cardiopulmonary complications. This study aimed to implement a cost-effective molecular diagnostic method using the SALSA MLPA Kit (probe mixes 034 and 035) to screen a large group of Egyptian DMD patients.

Purpose: We set out to develop a publicly available tool that could accurately diagnose spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in exome, genome or panel sequencing datasets aligned to a GRCh37, GRCh38, or T2T reference genome.

Methods: The SMA Finder algorithm detects the most common genetic causes of SMA by evaluating reads that overlap the c.840 position of the SMN1 and SMN2 paralogs.

Article Synopsis
  • Trichinosis, a parasitic disease affecting skeletal muscles, leads to harmful changes in muscle cells, prompting a study on the combined effects of stem cells and atorvastatin with ivermectin in infected mice.
  • A total of 120 Swiss albino male mice were divided into 10 treatment groups to evaluate the effectiveness of various therapies during the intestinal and muscular phases of infection.
  • Results indicated that the combination of ivermectin, atorvastatin, and stem cells significantly reduced parasitic burden and improved muscle health, suggesting a strong synergistic effect in treating trichinosis.

Background: Two intra-coronal preparation designs with varying extensions of cuspal coverage can perform differently regarding their fracture resistance against introral forces.

Methods: Two materials (IPS e-max CAD [EX], VITA ENAMIC [EN]), and two different preparation designs (EX-D1), (EX-D2), (EN-D1), and (EN-D2) were investigated to compare their fracture resistance. A total of 40 (n = 40) caries free human mandibular molars were used.

The present study aimed to clarify the prognostic role of the pre-treatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC). Due to conflicting results in currently available data, the specific focus of the present study was on evaluating the associations between the pre-treatment NLR and the rate of achieving a pathological complete response (pCR) and survival outcomes. For the present study, data from a cohort of 465 consecutive patients with LABC who underwent NAC at King Feisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) between 2005 and 2014 were obtained from a prospective BC database and analyzed.

Deciphering the gut microbiome's link to obesity is crucial. Our study characterized the gut microbial community in Egyptian children and investigated the effect of covariates on the gut microbiome, body mass index (BMI), geographical location, gender, and age. We used 16S rRNA sequencing to characterize the gut microbial communities of 49 children.

Mathematical manipulation technique has proven to be a very powerful tool for efficient processing and handling of highly overlapped spectra. This work introduced two green and sustainable approaches for the successful recovery of the ternary mixture, Tylosin tartarate (TYL), Sulfadimdine (SLD), and Trimethoprim (TRI). The approaches were constructed using three different methods, derivative ratio spectrum zero-crossing method (DRSZ), double divisor ratio spectra derivative method (DDRD), and factorized derivative ratio method coupled with spectrum subtraction (FDRM-SS).

Background: There is a growing body of evidence indicating that the worldwide distribution of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is far from uniform. This is evident through variations in the epidemiology, genetics, and phenotypical characteristics of ALS and other motor neuron diseases (MND) across different regions. However, comprehensive ALS epidemiological studies are still lacking in many parts of the world, especially in Africa.

Article Synopsis
  • Plant species C. majus was extracted using three different solvents—ethyl acetate, methanol, and water—to obtain bioactive compounds, with methanol proving to be the most effective.
  • The methanol extract showed a high content of phenolic compounds, leading to strong antioxidant activity and effective inhibition of cholinesterase and tyrosinase enzymes.
  • Both methanol and ethyl acetate extracts exhibited significant cytotoxic effects against cancer cells while being non-toxic to normal cell lines, indicating their potential use in food and pharmaceutical applications.
