The concordance of communication between patients and health professionals is essential to promoting positive health outcomes. However, concordance may be broken where language barriers exist therefore creating a need to use interpretation services. This is the case when rapid diagnostic testing (RDT) of HIV, HBV, and HCV is offered to migrants.

Aim: To determine the clinically significant association between pneumatization types of the sphenoid sinus (SS) and protrusion/ dehiscence of the optic nerve (ON) and the internal carotid artery (ICA).

Material And Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2020 and April 2021 at the Dow Institute of Radiology, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. This study examined 300 computed tomography (CT) PNS patients aged 18-60 years.

Major stressors can influence religiosity, making some people more religious, while making others less religious. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted a mixed-method study with a nationally representative sample of religiously affiliated American adults (N = 685) to assess group differences between those who decreased, stayed the same, or increased in their religious devotion. In quantitative analyses we evaluated differences on sociodemographic variables, religious behaviors, individual differences, prosocial emotions, well-being, and COVID-19 attitudes and behaviors.

Evaluating Clinician Expectations of mHealth Solutions to Increase Rapid-Screening for HIV and Hepatitis in Migrant Populations in France: Qualitative Study.

Background: Migrants underuse screening opportunities for HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C despite elevated risk factors for contracting these infections. Language barriers are an often given as reasons for limiting access to services. Translation and communication apps increase communication and overall patient satisfaction in the patient-provider relationship.

Promoting HIV, Hepatitis B Virus, and Hepatitis C Virus Screening Among Migrants With a Language Barrier: Protocol for the Development and Evaluation of an Electronic App (Apidé).

Background: Late diagnoses of HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are important public health problems that affect the population at large and migrants in particular. Missed opportunities of HIV and hepatitis screening are numerous, with language differences being a significant barrier to testing. Several studies have shown that migrants who do not speak the language of the health provider are less likely to get tested, due to health providers' reluctance to offer a test and to migrants' reluctance to accept testing.

Antibacterial activities of hexadecanoic acid methyl ester and green-synthesized silver nanoparticles against multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Antibacterial drug resistance is considered one of the biggest threats to human health worldwide, and the overuse of antibiotics accelerates this problem. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria are becoming harder to treat as the antibiotics used to treat them become less effective. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate novel methods to control MDR bacteria.

Respiratory motion estimation of the liver with abdominal motion as a surrogate.

Background: Respiratory-induced motion (RIM) causes uncertainties in localizing hepatic lesions, which could lead to inaccurate targeting during interventions. One approach to mitigate the problem is respiratory motion estimation (RME), in which the liver motion is estimated by measuring external signals called surrogates.

Methods: A learning-based approach has been developed and validated to estimate the RIM of hepatic lesions.

High- but not low-grade histologic chorioamnionitis is associated with spontaneous preterm birth in a Swedish cohort.

Objective: To examine whether different grades of placenta inflammation are associated with risk for spontaneous preterm birth, taking into consideration maternal and delivery factors. Placentas from spontaneous preterm births were compared with a control group from full-term deliveries.

Methods: Placentas from 98 full-term, 71 late preterm (gestational week 34-37), and 65 early preterm (gestational week 22-33) singleton deliveries were analysed from the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.

The effect of feed-based vaccination on tilapia farm endemic for streptococcosis.

A tilapia farm experiencing endemic streptococcosis was selected to study the effect of vaccination with a feed-based vaccine on naturally ocurring streptococcosis. A total of 9000 red tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus × Oreochromis mossambicus of 100 ± 20 g were divided into 9 cages. Fish of Group 1 in cages 1, 2 and 3 were not vaccinated.

The Arabic vowels: features and possible clinical application in communication disorders.

Unlabelled: Most scholars, old and modern, agree that the vowel system of the Arabic language is composed of 3 vowels only, namely /i/, /ε/ and /u/. The spoken Cairo dialect suggests that there are 6 identifiable vowels, with a short and long variant for each.

Resequencing genes in individuals at extremes of the population distribution constitutes a powerful and efficient strategy to identify sequence variants associated with complex traits. Polyarteritis nodosa complicated by catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome.

Multiple rare variants in NPC1L1 associated with reduced sterol absorption and plasma low-density lipoprotein levels.

An approach to understand quantitative traits was recently proposed based on the finding that nonsynonymous (NS) sequence variants in certain genes are preferentially enriched at one extreme of the population distribution. The NS variants, although individually rare, are cumulatively frequent and influence quantitative traits, such as plasma lipoprotein levels. Here, we use the NS variant technique to demonstrate that genetic variation in NPC1L1 contributes to variability in cholesterol absorption and plasma levels of low-density lipoproteins (LDLs).

Insulin resistance and hypertension: the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis study.

The association between insulin resistance and insulinemia and hypertension is controversial. We examined the relation between insulin resistance and hypertension in 564 non-Hispanic whites (NHW), 505 Hispanics (H), and 413 African Americans (AA) who participated in the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study (IRAS). Insulin sensitivity was measured with a frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test with minimal model analysis.

Insulin regulates plasma ghrelin concentration.

Ghrelin is a novel gastric peptide which stimulates growth hormone and has orexigenic and adipogenic properties. Plasma ghrelin is influenced by nutritional status and is thought to play a role in regulating food intake and body weight. We examined the effect of infusing insulin (40 mU/m(2)/min) for 2 hours while maintaining euglycemia on plasma ghrelin in 8 subjects (5 M, 3 F) aged 46 +/- 4 yrs (mean +/- SEM).
