Visual Illusions in Radiology: Untrue Perceptions in Medical Images and Their Implications for Diagnostic Accuracy.

Errors in radiologic interpretation are largely the result of failures of perception. This remains true despite the increasing use of computer-aided detection and diagnosis. We surveyed the literature on visual illusions during the viewing of radiologic images.

Histopathology of Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Implications for Pathogenesis and Therapy.

Aging is associated with a number of histological changes in the choroid, Bruch's membrane, RPE, and neuroretina. Outside of the normal physiologic aging spectrum of changes, abnormal deposits such as basal laminar deposits, basal linear deposits, and soft drusen are known to be associated with AMD. Progression of AMD to advanced stages involving geographic atrophy, choroidal neovascularization, and/or disciform scars can result in debilitating vision loss.

Knowledge of the Relationship Between Breastfeeding and Breast Cancer Risk Among Racial and Ethnic Minority Women.

Research indicates breastfeeding can reduce the risk of breast cancer in women. Black and Hispanic women are more likely to die from breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women and are least likely to breastfeed. The current study was designed to evaluate women's knowledge of the link between breastfeeding and decreased breast cancer risk among a racially diverse cohort of pregnant women.

Current review of sebaceous cell carcinoma.

Purpose Of Review: Periocular sebaceous cell carcinoma is a rare malignancy that is often misdiagnosed leading to increased morbidity and mortality. This review aims to describe current knowledge on the disease to aid clinicians in timely diagnosis and treatment.

Recent Findings: New research has shown that the diagnosis of sebaceous cell carcinoma can be aided with immunohistochemical stains.
