Outside of the normal physiologic aging spectrum of changes, abnormal deposits such as basal laminar deposits, basal linear deposits, and soft drusen are known to be associated with AMD. Progression of AMD to advanced stages involving geographic atrophy, choroidal neovascularization, and/or disciform scars can result in debilitating vision loss.
