The water pollution becomes a serious concern for the sustainability of ecosystems due to the existence of pharmaceutical products (ceftriaxone (CEF) antibiotic). Even in low concentration of CEF has lethal effects on ecosystem and human health. To remove CEF, TiO is considered as an effective and efficient nanoparticles, however its performance is reduced due to wider energy gap and rapid recombination of charge carriers.

The 2D transition metal carbides/nitrides (2D MXenes) are a versatile class of 2D materials for photovoltaic (PV) systems. The numerous advantages of MXenes, including their excellent metallic conductivity, high optical transmittance, solution processability, tunable work-function, and hydrophilicity, make them suitable for deployment in PV technology. This comprehensive review focuses on the synthesis methodologies and properties of MXenes and MXene-based materials for PV systems.

Article Synopsis
  • Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) offer a novel way to use solar power in buildings, enhancing integration with photovoltaics.
  • The study focuses on thin-film LSCs using a specific fluorophore (DACT-II) and compares the effects of two polymers—polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PBzMA)—on their performance.
  • Results indicate that LSCs with DACT-II embedded in PBzMA outperform those in PMMA, achieving optical conversion efficiency of 2.32% and power-conversion efficiency of 0.33%, which is about 1.2 times greater than in PMMA.
