Article Synopsis
  • Lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis (PF) lack effective therapies, but mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and a specific type called immunity-and-matrix-regulatory cells (IMRCs) show promise for treatment.
  • An experimental study on mice with PF used different administration methods (single/double IV or intratracheal injections) to determine the best approach for IMRC therapy.
  • Results indicated that intravenous (IV) administration was more effective than intratracheal (IT), especially when given early and frequently, leading to improved health outcomes and reduced inflammation and fibrosis.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are a desirable cell source for cell therapy owing to their capacity to be produced stably and homogeneously in large quantities. However, a scalable culture system for hPSC-derived MSCs is urgently needed to meet the cell quantity and quality requirements of practical clinical applications. In this study, we developed a new microcarrier with hyaluronic acid (HA) as the core material, which allowed scalable serum-free suspension culture of hESC-derived MSCs (IMRCs).
