Background: The surgical treatment of high-grade acromioclavicular joint dislocation remains a matter of debate. Clavicular hook plate internal fixation was widely used in the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation because of its easy-to-master surgical technique. This study aimed to evaluate outcomes using hook plate fixation for acromioclavicular dislocation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on analyzing fracture incidents among elderly patients during a specific period in early 2020, coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • A total of 436 elderly patients sustained 453 fractures, primarily at home, with hip fractures being the most common type, largely due to falls from standing height.
  • The findings emphasize the need for preventive measures in home environments to reduce fracture risks among older adults, particularly in light of challenges posed by the pandemic.

Objective: To explore the effect of lentivirus-mediated BMP-2 overexpression plasmid transfection into bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and silk fibroin scaffold on osteoblast transformation.

Methods: The lentivirus BMP-2 overexpression vector was constructed, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were cultured, and the combined culture system of nuclear scaffolds was constructed. Alizarin red staining and alkaline phosphatase staining were used to detect the osteogenic transformation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vitro.

Objective of the present work was to study the effect and significance of the combined therapy of methotrexate and immune adsorption in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis disease. 56 patients with rheumatoid arthritis disease who have received treatment in "The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao, Shandong, China" during the period from May, 2016 to May, 2017 were selected as study objects and were randomized into control group and experimental group according to different therapies. Control group was given conventional therapy while experimental group was treated with the combined therapy of methotrexate and immune adsorption with 28 patients in each group.

Studies have shown that Chinese herb caulis extract can effectively inhibit the expression of the core regulatory hormone hepcidin in iron metabolism and significantly increase the iron level in the body. On this basis, this paper analyzed clinical efficacy and safety of oral niferex (polysaccharide iron complex) combined with caulis Decoction in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. The results showed that the recovery rate of the Caulis group, Niferex group and the combined treatment group were 41.

The feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology combined with minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of pubic rami fractures was explored. From August 2015 to October 2017, a series of 30 patients who underwent surgical stabilization of their anterior pelvic ring (all utilizing the 3D printing technology) by one surgeon at a single hospital were studied. The minimally invasive incisions were made through anterior inferior cilia spine and pubic nodule.

Background: Epidural fibrosis (EF) is a common complication after laminectomy. Salvianolic acid B (Sal B) is a major bioactive component of a traditional Chinese medical agent, Salvia miltiorrhiza, which has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic and anti-proliferative properties. The object of this study was to investigate the effect of Sal B on the prevention of epidural fibrosis in laminectomy rats.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from New Zealand white rabbits, culture-expanded and differentiated into Schwann cell-like cells. Autologous platelet-rich plasma and Schwann cell-like cells were mixed in suspension at a density of 1 × 10(6) cells/mL, prior to introduction into a poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) conduit. Fabricated tissue-engineered nerves were implanted into rabbits to bridge 10 mm sciatic nerve defects (platelet-rich plasma group).

Objective: To develop and evaluate a computer-assisted virtual surgical procedure for preoperative planning that simulates the reduction and plate fixation for acetabular fractures based on real computed tomography (CT) data using computer softwares on personal computers.

Methods: Virtual preoperative planning for reduction and plate fixation for seven acetabular fractures was performed. Three-dimensional (3D) models of acetabular fractures based on real CT data in Dicom format were built to perform reduction first.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether three-dimensional reconstructed computed tomography (CT) images can improve intra-observer and inter-observer reliability for classification systems of tibial plateau fractures compared to plain radiographs and two-dimensional CT images.

Methods: Twenty-one tibial plateau fractures were classified independently by four attending orthopaedic trauma surgeons using the AO/ASIF and Schatzker classification systems. First, a combination of plain radiographs and two-dimensional (2D) CT images were evaluated.

In order to evaluate the efficacy of low intensity ultrasound and tissue engineering technique to repair segmental bone defects, the rabbit models of 1.5-cm long rabbit radial segmental osteoperiosteum defects were established and randomly divided into 2 groups. All defects were implanted with the composite of calcium phosphate cement and bone mesenchymal stem cells, and additionally those in experimental group were subjected to low intensity ultrasound exposure, while those in control group to sham exposure.
