Article Synopsis
  • The study used deep learning with convolutional neural networks (CNN) to predict skeletal growth maturation from cervical vertebrae and lower 2nd molar calcification levels using orthopantomography (OPG).
  • About 1200 cephalometric radiographs and OPGs were analyzed, achieving high accuracy in detecting skeletal maturity, particularly with cervical vertebrae accuracy at 98% for males.
  • The findings suggest that CNN multiclass classification reliably assesses maturation levels, confirming that OPGs alone can effectively determine growth stages.

Purpose: Antibacterial and antibiofilm properties of magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgONPs) mixture assessed against (), in addition to examining MgONPs varnish impact on the preservation of the tooth color and inhibition of methylene blue diffusion to the enamel.

Methods: MgONPs mixture was prepared in deionized water (DW), absolute ethanol (E), and rosin with ethanol (RE), named varnish. The antibacterial and antibiofilm capacities of MgONPs mixtures were tested by agar well diffusion, colony-forming unit (CFU), and biofilm inhibition microtiter methods in triplicate and compared to sodium fluoride varnish (NaF) and chlorhexidine mouthwash (ChX).

: Orthodontics is a field that has seen significant advancements in recent years, with technology playing a crucial role in improving diagnosis and treatment planning. The study aimed to implement artificial intelligence to predict the arch width as a preventive measure to avoid future crowding in growing patients or even in adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment as a tool for orthodontic diagnosis. : Four hundred and fifty intraoral scan (IOS) images were selected from orthodontic patients seeking treatment in private orthodontic centers.

: Numerous studies have investigated the applicability of Pont's index using a variety of selection criteria. The morphology of teeth and the shapes of the face are significantly influenced by racial, cultural, and environmental factors, so the current study focused on these demographics. : This study is a retrospective study and included one hundred intraoral scanned images selected from patients seeking orthodontic treatment.

(1) Background: Accurate diagnosis and treatment plans in orthodontics were facilitated by novel technologies. The prediction of occlusal problems is of utmost importance for clinicians. This present study aimed to find any possible correlation between unilateral and bilateral palatally impacted maxillary canine, palatal dimensions, and maxillary arch perimeter using digital measurements and determine the factors that could be used as predictors for maxillary palatal canine impaction.

This study aims to examine the impact of the direct and indirect mixing techniques on the dispersion and homogeneity of magnesium oxide (MgO) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) mixed with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). NPs were mixed with PMMA powder directly (non-ethanol-assisted) and indirectly (ethanol-assisted) with the aid of ethanol as solvent. X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to evaluate the dispersion and homogeneity of MgO and Ag NPs within the PMMA-NPs nanocomposite matrix.

It is impossible to remove tooth-colored restorations by mechanical means without unnecessary damage to the adjacent sound tooth structure. This study is aimed at investigating erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er: YAG) laser (Hoya ConBio, VersaWave, CA, USA) in removing composite resin restorations and assessing the change in morphology of bonding surfaces using a scanning electron microscope (EDX, CAMSCANNER, 3200LV, UK). The investigators collected thirty extracted sound human premolar teeth for this investigation, and the conventional design class V cavity was prepared on the buccal surface of each specimen.

Article Synopsis
  • The hard palate is crucial for separating the oral and nasal cavities and this study aimed to analyze its morphology in a Kurdish sample from Sulaimani, focusing on three-dimensional dimensions and their relationships to maxillary arch characteristics.
  • A sample of 100 orthodontic patients aged 16-24 was used, with findings showing a predominance of narrow palates (80%) and a majority with tapered maxillary arch forms (90%), with males generally having larger palatal dimensions than females.
  • The study found significant correlations between various palatal parameters, notably a strong positive correlation between arch form and canine depth, and a strong negative correlation between arch perimeter and molar depth.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on creating a prediction equation to estimate the arch perimeter based on various dental measurements in the Kurdish population of Sulaimani City using 100 preorthodontic dental casts.
  • Statistical analysis using SPSS revealed two separate equations for upper and lower dental arches, incorporating measurements like arch length and intermolar width.
  • The results indicated that the predicted arch perimeters matched well with the actual measurements, suggesting useful applications in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning.

Background: Gingival hyper-pigmentation is an esthetics problem in patients with excessive gingival display. Laser ablation has been suggested recently as the most effective, pleasant, and reliable technique for gingival depigmentation compared to blade surgery.

Aim: The present study aimed to identify and compare the effectiveness of two types of lasers, Er:YAG laser-2940 nm and Diode laser-980 nm, in gingival depigmentation in the maxilla and mandible.

Background: Estimation of the mesio-distal width of permanent maxillary canines (PMCs) is a critical part of mixed dentition space analysis. The aim of this pilot study is to find a specific prediction equation for the estimation of the mesio-distal width of PMCs depending on the width of permanent maxillary and mandibular central incisors (PMMCIs) in a Kurdish population.

Methods: A hundred study casts were collected.
