Uses of private health provider data for governance in low-income and middle-income countries: results from a scoping review.

Unlabelled: This work grew from an interest in understanding how private data are used for health system governance in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Objective: We conducted a scoping review to understand how the public sector collects routine data from the private health sector and uses it for governance purposes. The private health sector was defined to include both formal and informal, for-profit or non-profit, actors delivering healthcare services.

Optimal Hydrofluoric Acid Etching Duration and Impact of Silane/Adhesive on Profilometric Properties and Bonding to Lithium Disilicate Glass Ceramics.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the surface roughness, surface free energy (SFE), and shear bond strength (SBS) on a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic surface following varying etching protocols (time variation) and application of silane either with or without adhesive material.

Methods And Materials: Lithium disilicate glassceramic (LDGC) computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) blocks were cut using a slow-speed cutting mechanism. CAD/CAM blocks were then evaluated for surface roughness, 6 groups (n=20); SFE,12 groups (n=5); and SBS, 10 groups (n=10).

Regional versus general anesthesia in knee arthroplasty in patients with different classes of BMI: A matched analysis of the NSQIP database.

Background: Knee arthroplasty for knee arthritis is a commonly performed surgery yielding excellent functional results and good pain relief. It is associated with post-surgical complications according to the type of anesthesia and BMI class.

Methods: The National Surgical Quality Improvement Project database for the years 2005-2012 for patients >18 years of age who underwent knee arthroplasty, condyle and plateau, medial and/or lateral compartment.

Comparison between femoral block and PENG block in femoral neck fractures: A cohort study.

Background: Regional analgesia is worth performing in the multimodal postoperative management of hip fracture (HF) because it reduces hospital morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy and side effects of the recently described "Pericapsular Nerve Group (PENG) Block" with those of the femoral block, which is considered the standard of care for postoperative pain control after femoral neck fracture.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a comparative observational study at a university hospital (Saint Antoine Hospital, Sorbonne University, Paris, France), where the PENG block was introduced in August 2019.

[Anaesthesia during COVID-19 epidemic].

Surgical pathway has gained in complexity thanks to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The anesthetic management of the SARScoV-2 (+) patient imposes several modifications, and remains a work in progress. As a consequence there has been a shift to distant anaesthetic consultations while in-hospital consultations are more difficult to organize.

Evaluation of the Surface Roughness and Accelerated Aging of CAD/CAM Materials.

Purpose: To compare the influence of surface roughness and accelerated aging on the mechanical properties of polymer-based and ceramic CAD/CAM materials.

Materials And Methods: Three polymers (Lava Ultimate [LVU], VITA ENAMIC [ENA], and Shofu Block HC [SFB]) and one ceramic (IPS Empress CAD [EMP]) were selected for this study. The specimens were treated with the aim of measuring surface roughness (Ra [mm]) and its influence on the mechanical properties.

Is there a place for regional anesthesia in nonoperating room anesthesia?

Purpose Of Review: General anesthesia and monitored anesthesia care (MAC) are the most widely used techniques in nonoperating room anesthesia (NORA). However, regional anesthesia is slowly finding viable applications in this field. This review aims at providing an update on the current practice of regional anesthesia techniques outside of the operating theatre.

Renal cell carcinoma extending into vena cava and right atrium.

We report on a patient who underwent complete removal of a renal cell carcinoma extending into the vena cava and the right atrium. A review of the literature confirms the rarity of vena caval obstructive symptoms. Emphasis is on preoperative diagnosis, thoracoabdominal exposure, and team approach.

Chronic lower quadrant abdominal pain due to vesicoureteral reflux.

Chronic lower abdominal pain or flank pain in adults may be associated with vesicoureteral reflux. Although it is well known that renal scarring may occur in adults with vesicoureteral reflux associated with urinary tract infection, renal function may vary significantly when these patients are found to have sterile vesicoureteral reflux. We report 2 cases of lifelong intermittent lower abdominal pain associated with vesicoureteral reflux without damage to the upper urinary tracts.

Calcification and bone marrow formation in ureteropelvic junction obstruction.

Abnormal deposits of calcium in ischemic and necrotic tissue is a common finding in human pathological conditions. Calcium is found in 1 to 2 per cent of renal cysts and 10 per cent of renal cell carcinomas. Calcification in hydronephrosis secondary to ureteropelvic junction obstruction is rare.

The use of the red cell surface antigen to predict the malignant potential of transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter and renal pelvis.

This is the first report on the use of the red cell surface antigen test in predicting the malignant potential of transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter and renal pelvis. In 29 cases evaluated there was an 80 per cent correlation. The red cell surface antigen determination was shown to have practical value in the management of these tumors.

Pyelocaliceal diverticulum presenting as a disappearing renal mass.

We report a rare case of a disappearing cystic mass of the kidney. Pyelocaliceal diverticulum has to be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with pyelonephritis and a space-occupying lesion of the kidney. Initial conservative therapy with antibiotics helps to determine the definitive diagnosis.

Metastatic carcinoma to testicle.

Metastatic carcinoma to the testicular, epididymis, and their tunics is unusual and adenocarcinoma of the small bowel is extremely rare. The combination of primary adenocarcinoma of the jejunum with metastasis to the tunica vaginalis of the testis has not been reported previously. An unusual case of a sacral mass in a twenty-seven-year-old black man is presented and the literature reviewed.
