Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the 1-year safety and efficacy of a dual-layered stent (DLS) for carotid artery stenting (CAS) in a multicenter registry.
Background: DLS have been proved to be safe and efficient during short-term follow-up. Recent data have raised the concern that the benefit of CAS performed with using a DLS may be hampered by a higher restenosis rate at 1 year.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate 30-day safety and efficacy of dual-layer mesh-covered carotid stent systems for carotid artery stenting (CAS) in the clinical practice.
Background: When compared with carotid endarterectomy, CAS has been associated with a higher rate of post procedural neurologic events; these could be related to plaque's debris prolapsing through stent's mesh. Consequently, the need for increased plaque coverage has resulted in the development of dual-layer mesh-covered carotid stent systems.
Background: We report a rare case of delayed, symptomatic thoracic endograft thrombosis after the initial thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for blunt thoracic aortic injury which was successfully retreated with a redo TEVAR, followed by open conversion due to recurrent partial occlusion of the distal edge of the endografts.
Methods: Two years ago, a 22-year-old man had undergone an emergency TEVAR for blunt thoracic aortic injury. A Zenith Cook 22 × 100 mm (Cook Incorporated, Bloomington, IN) endograft was used.
Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a less invasive option for managing traumatic injuries of the descending aorta in polytraumatized patients. Concerns arise when treating young patients with TEVAR. A 22-year-old male was admitted to the emergency department following a high-impact road traffic collision.

It has been associated with a variety of clinical syndromes but -related endocarditis is extremely rare. We present the case of a 76-year-old diabetic patient who was admitted to our hospital due to severe lumbar pain resistant to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs accompanied by fever (up to 38.

We present a case of aortic false aneurysm following iliac arteries treatment complicated by spondylodiscitis after its endovascular repair. In this patient, a huge aortic pseudoaneurysm was diagnosed and treated in an emergency setting a few days after the procedure.

We report two cases of sacotomy performed to treat this problem: the first case was in an emergency setting for aneurismal sac rupture, and the second occurred in an elective surgery setting after several unsuccessful endovascular procedures. In both cases, sacotomy allowed us identify the bleeding sources without aortic cross-clamping and endograft explantation.

Methods: During a three-year period, we enrolled 300 patients with carotid stenosis that fit with Stroke Prevention and Educational Awareness Diffusion (SPREAD) guidelines and we performed 150 carotid endarterectomy operations (CEA) and 150 carotid artery stenting procedures (CAS) with distal protection devices.
Background: The true aneurysms of the infrapopliteal arteries are an unusual pathology with low incidence in the general population. They appear in the literature only as isolated case reports. True aneurysms of the infrapopliteal arteries represent a surgical problem, especially when a bifurcation is involved and when the distal vessels are affected by occlusive disease.

We present a case in which the endograft deployement was achieved through a right common carotid artery access because four years before the patient was submitted to an axillo-bifemoral bypass with aortic graft removal and aortic stump ligature for infection. After endovascular repair the patient suffered from spinal cord ischemia, acute pancreatitis and spleen infarction.

Material And Methods: High-resolution Colour-Flow Mapping (CFM), Transcranial Doppler (TCD), cerebral computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) and four psychometric tests (Mini mental state, Beck depression inventory, Zung anxiety inventory, SF-12) were carried out in the preoperative evaluation in all the patients. In the CEAs loco-regional anesthesia (100%), patch angioplasty (84%) and Pruitt- Inahara shunt (4%) were employed; in the CASs local anesthesia (100%), three different carotid stents (Precise-Cordis, Acculink-Guidant and Carotid Wallstent-Boston Scientific) and three temporary distal filter protection devices (Angioguard-Cordis, Accunet-Guidant, Filterwire-EZ- Boston Scientific), without pre-dilatation, were employed.

Aim: Isolated iliac artery aneurysm is a rare pathology that is often asymptomatic for long periods; this late diagnosis exposes patients to a high risk of death following aneurysm rupture. The aim of this study was to establish the most suitable diagnostic approach, the correct indications for treatment, and the most appropriate tactics and surgical technique.
Methods: Twenty-eight patients were observed over 13 years.
Infections due to nontyphoidal Salmonella are common and their incidence has been increasing in the last few years. Here, we describe a patient with a rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm associated with a psoas abscess due to Salmonella typhimurium. Early diagnosis, prompt surgical intervention, and active and prolonged antibiotic therapy are the gold standard for the management of this severe clinical situation.

Exposure of the distal internal carotid artery at the level of the second cervical vertebra required manoeuvers such as division of digastric muscle or mandibular subluxation. These increase the exposure but may not provide adequate access and are associated with significant cranial nerves or temporal mandibular joint complications. Vertical Ramus Osteotomy (VRO) provided access of the internal carotid artery (ICA) up to the base of the skull, with low incidence of cranial nerve injury temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) pain and no preincision preparation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFInternal carotid artery (ICA) reparative techniques are nowadays widely standardized in traumatic as well as degenerative pathological conditions; therefore, the greatest difficulty encountered in the treatment of lesions at the expense of the most distal segment of the ICA is not a result of the application of these techniques as much as the difficulty in obtaining adequate exposure of the vessel and a sufficiently wide surgical field. In the past, lesions localized more toward the skull were considered to be surgically unreachable. During the last 20 years, however, various techniques have been suggested and attempted for the exposure of this difficult area.

Background: The aim of this paper is to evaluate the long term results related to surgical technique and to prosthetic material in planned and emergency conditions.
Methods: From January 1990 to December 1999, fourty-five patients with popliteal aneurysms were observed. Eighteen patients (40%) were asymptomatic; eleven (24.
Popliteal artery injuries have an incidence ranging between 5% and 19% of all traumatic arteria lesions. A high index of amputation, when associated with lesions of the infrapopliteal branches, and a 4-5% overall mortality are recorded in these conditions. Three patients with popliteal artery injury due to posterior knee dislocation were operated upon in our department during the last 12 months.
