Single-use technologies are increasingly used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Despite their advantages, these plastic assemblies draw concern because they are a potential source of contamination due to extractable and leachable compounds (E&Ls). Characterising E&Ls from such materials is a necessary step in establishing their suitability for use.

The worldwide loss of honeybee colonies may be due to their exposure to several contaminants (i.e., pesticides); such contamination may also have impacts on consumers' health.

The highly regioselective CH-insertion process produces after DDQ oxidation polysubstituted, polyfunctionalized aromatic compounds in good overall yields.

The stereoselectivity was found to be temperature and solvent dependent. The beta-hydroxy-alpha-amino nitrile of syn configuration was the major compound in kinetically controlled reactions, whereas the anti stereoisomer was obtained in excess in thermodynamically controlled reactions.
