Introduction: Pressure injuries (PIs) are a significant issue in healthcare system: nursing students are recommended to be prepared to assess the risk, prevent and manage them. However, despite the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic significantly affected nursing students' learning opportunities no data regarding their impact of PIs knowledge, attitudes and learning occasions have been documented to date.

Aims: To describe the post-pandemic knowledge and attitudes regarding PI prevention and management and to compare clinical learning opportunities in the field of PIs before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ullmann coupling is a widely used reaction for the on-surface growth of low-dimensional carbon nanomaterials. Low-Temperature Methane Activation Reaction Pathways over Mechanochemically-Generated Ce/Cu Interfacial Sites.

Methane is a valuable resource and its valorization is an important challenge in heterogeneous catalysis. Here it is shown that CeO/CuO composite prepared by ball milling activates methane at a temperature as low as 250 °C. In contrast to conventionally prepared catalysts, the formation of partial oxidation products such as methanol and formaldehyde is also observed.

Transient Bacillary Layer Detachment During the Disease Course of Primary Vitreoretinal Lymphoma.

Purpose: To report the clinical course and the retinal imaging features of a case of cytology-proven primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL) presenting with a transient bacillary layer detachment (BALAD) during the disease course.

Methods: Observational case report.

Results: A 50 year-old woman was referred to us with a 2-month history of vitritis in both eyes, poorly responding to oral prednisolone.

Enhancing life with celiac disease: unveiling effective tools for assessing health-related quality of life.

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune chronic enteropathy provoked by gluten ingestion in genetically predisposed individuals. Considering it´s only safe treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet, the burden of living with the disease becomes evident, as well as the need to assess CD health-related quality of life (HRQOL). This review aims to identify and analyze the instruments used to evaluate the HRQOL of adults with CD.

Improved Process for the Continuous Acylation of 1,3-Benzodioxole.

The acylation of 1,3-benzodioxole was studied in a continuous process using a recyclable heterogeneous substoichiometric catalyst. In a short time period (30 min), at 100 °C, the conversion rate was 73%, with a selectivity of 62% of the desired acylated product; the reaction was run continuously for 6 h, showing excellent stability and selectivity. Moreover, the unreacted starting material, 1,3-benzodioxole, can be easily separated by distillation and recycled.

γH2AX in mouse embryonic stem cells: Distribution during differentiation and following γ-irradiation.

Phosphorylated histone H2AX (γH2AX) represents a sensitive molecular marker of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and is implicated in stem cell biology. We established a model of mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC) differentiation and examined the dynamics of γH2AX foci during the process. Our results revealed high numbers of γH2AX foci in undifferentiated mESCs, decreasing as the cells differentiated towards the endothelial cell lineage.

Chronic Suppressive Antibiotic Treatment for Staphylococcal Bone and Joint Implant-Related Infections.

Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) and fracture-related infection (FRI) are difficult-to-treat conditions in patients with severe comorbidity or significant surgical risk. In cases not eligible for standard strategy, debridement procedures with the retention of prosthesis or internal fixation device, combined with long-term antibiotic treatment and subsequent indefinite chronic oral antimicrobial suppression (COAS), can be the only reasonable choice. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of COAS and its follow-up in the management of these cases.

Real-life monocentric experience of venetoclax-based regimens for acute myeloid leukemia.

Introduction: Combination of venetoclax and hypomethylating agents (HMAs) has become a standard of care in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) aged >75 years or who have comorbidities that preclude intensive induction chemotherapy.

Methods: We conducted a monocentric retrospective analysis on adult patients affected by treatment-naïve AML not eligible for standard induction therapy or refractory/relapsed (R/R) AML treated with venetoclax combinations outside clinical trials. Venetoclax was administered at the dose of 400 mg/daily after a short ramp-up and reduced in case of concomitant CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Childhood obesity is a global public health concern linked to metabolic and psychological comorbidities. There is growing evidence that children's lifestyle habits are shifting towards obesity, with dire consequences for their future well-being and healthcare costs. In this interventional study, we enrolled 115 children aged between 4-5 years (53% females and 47% males) and carried out nutrition education interventions to improve their dietary habits.

Single-Cell RNA Sequencing for the Detection of Clonotypic V(D)J Rearrangements in Multiple Myeloma.

Multiple myeloma (MM) has a highly heterogeneous genetic background, which complicates its molecular tracking over time. Nevertheless, each MM patient's malignant plasma cells (PCs) share unique V(D)J rearranged sequences at immunoglobulin loci, which represent ideal disease biomarkers. Because the tumor-specific V(D)J sequence is highly expressed in bulk RNA in MM patients, we wondered whether it can be identified by single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

Role of Protopine and Nuciferine in the Management of Nocturia, Urgency, and Dysuria in Pre- and Postmenopausal Women: A Prospective Pilot Study.

Objectives: Nocturia was commonly treated with drugs burdened with high costs and numerous side effects; in fact, more than 70% of patients drop out of long-term treatment. Protopine and nuciferine are two alkaloids that have different effects on the neurotransmitter receptors involved in the regulation mechanism of the onset of urinary stimuli. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy in controlling primarily nocturia and secondarily urgency and dysuria after 3 months of treatment with combination therapy of protopine and nuciferine syrup.

Health-related quality of life in survivors of severe COVID-19 infection.

Background: Long-term effects of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) are increasingly recognized as having a significant impact on Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). Understanding HRQoL status for each patient affected by long COVID-19 and its determinants may have a key role to prevent and treat this condition.

Methods: In this prospective observational study conducted in a large academic COVID-19 hospital in Rome, participants were contacted 2 years after hospital admission for severe COVID-19.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) have raised concerns as common, frequent etiologic agents of nosocomial infections, and patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) present the highest risk for colonization and infection. The incidence of colonization and infection in trauma patients remains poorly investigated. The aim of this study was to assess the risk factors for Carbapenem-resistant (CR)-GNB colonization and the clinical impact of colonization acquisition in patients with severe trauma admitted to the ICU in a CR-GNB hyperendemic country.

The spectrum of subclonal TP53 mutations in chronic lymphocytic leukemia: A next generation sequencing retrospective study.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a hematological disorder with complex clinical and biological behavior. TP53 mutational status and cytogenetic assessment of the deletion of the corresponding locus (17p13.1) are considered the most relevant biomarkers associated with pharmaco-predictive response, chemo-refractoriness, and worse prognosis in CLL patients.

Background: To date, the optimal management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and flat low-grade dysplasia (fLGD) of the colon or rectum remains controversial.

Methods: A systematic review was reported in accordance with PRISMA 2020 (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). Patients diagnosed with fLGD on surveillance endoscopy were pooled from studies published between 2000 and 2020.

MiR-146b-5p regulates IL-23 receptor complex expression in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells express the interleukin-23 receptor (IL-23R) chain, but the expression of the complementary IL-12Rβ1 chain requires cell stimulation via surface CD40 molecules (and not via the B-cell receptor [BCR]). This stimulation induces the expression of a heterodimeric functional IL-23R complex and the secretion of IL-23, initiating an autocrine loop that drives leukemic cell expansion. Based on the observation in 224 untreated Binet stage A patients that the cases with the lowest miR-146b-5p concentrations had the shortest time to first treatment (TTFT), we hypothesized that miR-146b-5p could negatively regulate IL-12Rβ1 side chain expression and clonal expansion.
