[Midwives and care in childbirth].

This study aimed at knowing the care in childbirths conducted by midwives by the middle of 20th century It is a study of qualitative approach using as reference the Content Analysis. Four midwives were interviewed. Five categories emerged: Motivation to be a midwife; learning to be a midwife; positioning the midwife's work; developing care; work compensation.
