Background: Lip exposure to carcinogens lead to several disorders, such as actinic cheilitis (AC) and lower lip squamous cell carcinoma (LLSCC). Although several studies have described important pathways in lip carcinogenesis, the comprehension of association of target genes in this process and their association with tumor microenvironment still need to be better understood.

In equatorial Brazil, the association of Burkitt lymphoma and Epstein-Barr virus manifests at high rates. Here, we report, for the first time, amplifications of aurora kinase genes (AURKA/B) in a patient with a history of periodontal abscess and the presence of a remaining nodule, diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma and Epstein-Barr virus, and /HIV positive. The patient was a 38-year-old man who presented with a 2-week-old severe jaw pain and a 3-day-old severe bilateral headache.

The significant number of people with latent and active tuberculosis infection requires further efforts to develop new vaccines or improve the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), which is the only approved vaccine against this disease. In this study, we developed a recombinant fusion protein (PEPf) containing high-density immunodominant epitope sequences from Rv0125, Rv2467, and Rv2672 (Mtb) proteases that proved immunogenic and used it to develop a recombinant BCG vaccine expressing the fusion protein. After challenging using Mtb, a specific immune response was recalled, resulting in a reduced lung bacterial load with similar protective capabilities to BCG.

EZH2, a histone methyltransferase, is overexpressed in several human tumors, but whether it exerts any impact in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) remains unknown. We used real time PCR to investigate the expression profile of EZH1 and EZH2 in 59 CLL patients, 10 samples of purified B-cells from healthy donors and 12 normal adult tissues. We compared the levels of AURKA and AURKB in 24 (mantle cell lymphoma) MCL patients harboring 8q abnormalities and its relationship with MYCC gene status. Two distinct subgroups were observed, in terms of MYCC expression. It has been demonstrated that genomic alterations of cells in the hematopoietic microenvironment could induce myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with ineffective hematopoiesis and dysmorphic hematopoietic cells, and subsequent transformation to acute myeloid leukemia. This investigation is the first attempt to correlate the gene expression profile of AURKA and AURKB in a cytogenetically stratified population of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from MDS patients. We found that AURKA messenger RNA was expressed at significantly higher levels in MSCs even with normal/altered karyotype when compared with hematopoietic cells and healthy donors.
