This data article describes a new dataset on measures of climate distance for trade analyses. The dataset contains, (i) time-varying measures of long-run climate conditions for twenty economies accounting for two-third of global agri-food exports and representatives of different prevailing climates, and (ii) the difference in long-run climate conditions between country-pairs, here defined as . Measures of long-run climate conditions are computed, for each year in the sample (1996 to 2015), as 30-years rolling averages of weather conditions (i.

Article Synopsis
  • Floods, droughts, and frost create significant challenges for agriculture, impacting farmers and their crops.
  • Subsidised crop insurance is a key strategy that helps farmers better handle these extreme weather events, particularly in regions where such events are more common, like the South.
  • The article suggests that current agricultural policies should be reformed to adopt a more comprehensive approach to risk management, focusing on overall resilience rather than just insurance.

Climate change includes different dramatic events, and among them, heat stress exposition is the strongest phenomenon affecting the livestock sector. The effects of heat stress events on animal welfare are complex and the economic impacts for the livestock sector are relevant. Management measures may contribute to improve the resilience to heat stress, but the extent to which they impact on livestock performances and management strategies depend on the magnitude of the stress conditions.

Circular and green economy are relevant issues in the agricultural sector, and animate the academic and policy debates: they contribute to identify and address the environmental and social problems raised by the economic development of the global economy. This study aims at reviewing the literature on circular and green economy, with a particular emphasis on the agri-food systems and their supply chains. It includes a systematic literature review and a bibliometric analysis, based on 1,061 documents that are indexed in the Scopus database.

Food preparations, especially those based on animal products, are often accused of being responsible for the increase in food-borne infections, contributing to increased pressure on healthcare systems. The risk assessment in agri-food supply chains is of utmost importance for the food industry and for policymakers. A wrong perception of risks may alter the functioning of supply chains; thus, efforts should be devoted to communicating risks in an efficient way.

Food-borne infections cause a considerable amount of illnesses, heavily affecting healthcare systems. Given the spread of food-borne infections, assessing food risks is a relevant issue for the food industry and policymakers. Following a systematic and meta-analytical approach, we evaluate how different sources and types of risks (i.

The Geographical origin of agri-food products has become astrategic tool of differentiation: it is a unique attribute which makes products difficult to reproduce, and presumed to be a quality cue for agri-food products. Consumer studies on the relevance of geographical labelling provide heterogeneous evidence on the relevance of this extrinsic attribute as compared to the relevance of other product characteristics. A systematic review of consumer studies on the relevance of geographical labelling has been conducted, and collected data have been quantitatively analysed through a meta-regression approach, in order to assess drivers of differences in relevance of geographical labelling across studies.
