Methods And Results: We present the case of a 17-year-old patient who developed gingival recession on tooth #6 following an esthetic crown lengthening procedure. The recession was treated with a subepithelial connective tissue graft; however, this case details the occurrence of two epithelial cysts adjacent to the region subjected to the surgical procedure, 6 months after surgery.

COVID-19 hospitalized patients and oral changes: a case-control study.

Objectives: To investigate the association between hospitalization for COVID-19 and oral changes, and to evaluate whether oral changes can indicate a higher risk of disease progression to death.

Materials And Methods: This case-control study analyzed patients hospitalized (university hospital), including those in intensive care unit and clinical wards. The study group comprised 69 COVID-19 positive patients (PCR-test), while the control group included 43 COVID-19 negative patients.

Prevalence of dentin hypersensitivity after orthodontic treatment: A cross-sectional study.

Introduction: The prevalence of cervical dentin hypersensitivity in patients after corrective orthodontic treatment has been poorly studied, although such hypersensitivity is very common. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of dentin hypersensitivity in patients who received corrective orthodontic treatment, the impact of general oral problems on quality of life, and the impact of hypersensitivity on the quality of life of this population.

Methods: This observational, cross-sectional study evaluated 232 patients who finished orthodontic treatment between 2000 and 2020 for self-reported hypersensitivity and clinically diagnosed hypersensitivity.

COVID-19 cross-sectional study in Maricá, Brazil: The impact of vaccination coverage on viral incidence.

Population surveillance in COVID-19 Pandemic is crucial to follow up the pace of disease and its related immunological status. Here we present a cross-sectional study done in Maricá, a seaside town close to the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Three rounds of study sampling, enrolling a total of 1134 subjects, were performed during May to August 2021.

Bagaza virus emerged in Spain in 2010 and was not reported in other countries in Europe until 2021, when the virus was detected by molecular methods in a corn bunting and several red-legged partridges in Portugal. Sequencing revealed high similarity between the 2021 strains from Portugal and the 2010 strains from Spain.

Brown spider (Loxosceles sp.) bite and COVID-19: A case report.

We present the case of a 32-year-old male patient hospitalized during the COVID-19 pandemic because of a Brown spider bite on his lower lip. The Brown spider accident occurred in southern Brazil; at hospital admission, the patient presented on his lip: edema, pustules, necrotic regions, and ulcerations. The patient complained of lower back pain, fever and dyspnea.

End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is treated mainly by hemodialysis, however, hemodialysis is associated with frequent complications, some of them involve the increased intracranial pressure. In this context, monitoring the intracranial pressure of these patients may lead to a better understanding of how intracranial pressure morphology varies with hemodialysis. This study aimed to follow-up patients with ESRD by monitoring intracranial pressure before and after hemodialysis sessions using a noninvasive method.

Background: Medicinal plants are an important source to identify new active pharmaceutical compounds. Traditionally, the sap of Euphorbia umbellata is widely used to treat cancer and inflammatory conditions. Objective: This study evaluated the temperature increase in swine gingival temperature after exposure to light emitted by a Polywave LED light curing unit (LCU, Bluephase 20i, Ivoclar Vivadent).

Methods: After local Ethics Committee approval (protocol 711/2015), 40 pigs were subjected to general anesthesia and the LCU tip was placed 5mm from the buccal gingival tissue (GT) close to lower lateral incisors. Leishmaniasis is considered by the World Health Organization as one of the infectious parasitic diseases endemic of great relevance and a global public health problem. Pentavalent antimonials used for treatment of this disease are limited and new phytochemicals emerge as an alternative to existing treatments, due to the low toxicity and cost reduction. Usnic acid is uniquely found in lichens and is especially abundant in genera such as Alectoria, Cladonia, Evernia, Lecanora, Ramalina, and Usnea.

The objective of this study is to report the clinical use of 2% Uncaria tomentosa gel against denture stomatitis (DS) as an alternative treatment. The patient was a 65-year-old, denture-wearing woman. At the clinical examination, her palate showed hyperplasic and erythematous mucosa indicating DS type II.

High postprandial triglycerides serum levels: is obesity a good predictor?
