Use of transparent vinyl polysiloxane in a minimally invasive approach for creating composite resin undercuts for partial removable dental prostheses.

A technique using a transparent vinyl polysiloxane material developed for use with light-polymerized composite resin and that does not require a lubricant is presented for creating composite resin undercuts for partial removable dental prosthesis clasps. With a surveyor, the undercut is waxed on the diagnostic cast according to the intended path of insertion. The transparent vinyl polysiloxane is used to fabricate a template for the undercut.

Evaluation of partially dentate patients' knowledge about caries and periodontal disease.

Objective: This investigation evaluated the knowledge of dental caries and periodontal disease among removable partial denture (RPD) wearers.

Method: A total of 127 partially dentate patients participated in this observational study. A structured questionnaire, which included eight questions referring to knowledge about aetiology and prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease, was developed in the local language (Portuguese) and used to collect the data of all the partial denture wearers.

Nanoleakage, ultramorphological characteristics, and microtensile bond strengths of a new low-shrinkage composite to dentin after artificial aging.

Objectives: To study the microtensile bond strengths and nanoleakage of low-shrinkage composite to dentin. The null hypotheses tested were (1) aging does not affect the bonding of low-shrinkage composite; (2) there is no difference in microtensile bond strengths and nanoleakage using different bonding strategies.

Methods: 32 extracted molars were assigned to one of four groups: LS System Adhesive (LS, 3M ESPE); dentin etched for 15s with phosphoric acid+LS System Adhesive (LSpa); Adper Single Bond Plus (SB, 3M ESPE); SB+LS Bond (SBLS).

The center of the incisive papilla for the selection of complete denture maxillary anterior teeth in 4 racial groups.

Objectives: To evaluate the use of the center of the incisive papilla as a guide for the selection of the proper width of maxillary dentures in 4 racial groups.

Method And Materials: One hundred sixty stone casts were obtained from impressions of the maxillary arch of white, black, mixed, and Asian subjects. The occlusal surfaces of the casts were photocopied and the images placed on a digitizer.

Nasal width as a guide for the selection of maxillary complete denture anterior teeth in four racial groups.

Purpose: Selecting artificial teeth for edentulous patients is difficult when pre-extraction records are not available. Various guidelines have been suggested for determining the width of the maxillary anterior denture teeth. This study was undertaken to evaluate the use of the nasal width as a guide for the selection of proper width maxillary anterior denture teeth in four racial groups of the Brazilian population.

Correlation between maxillary central incisor form and face form in 4 racial groups.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between central incisor form and face form in 4 racial groups and to investigate if there was agreement among experts in categorizing the central incisor forms.

Method And Materials: A total of 160 subjects (40 whites, 40 mulattos, 40 blacks, and 40 Asians) ranging from 18 to 33 years of age were selected. Digital photographic records were made, 1 full-face and 1 intraoral view of the maxillary right central incisor.

Intercommissural width in 4 racial groups as a guide for the selection of maxillary anterior teeth in complete dentures.

Purpose: To determine whether intercommissural width is a reliable guide for the selection of maxillary denture teeth width.

Materials And Methods: Casts were made of 160 subjects from 4 different racial groups. Locations of intercommissural width landmarks (the corners of the mouth) were made on the subjects and transferred to the casts.
