Surgical procedures for squamous cell carcinoma of the penis generally involve primary closure, partial glansectomy, skin graft, and penile amputation. Partial penile resection can result in not only unsightly deformation of the penis but also functional disorders of the urinary line as well as psychological effects due to subjective perceptions of a loss of power and masculinity. With the use of an organ-preserving procedure for functional reconstruction without compromising oncological control, this report describes a new procedure for performing functional penile reconstruction with an auricular cartilage composite graft.

Aim: Inulin, a soluble dietary fiber, is a source of energy for the host while the metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), produced in the gut through bacterial fermentation exerts the anti-obesity effect. In this study, we aimed to apply a metabolomics approach and clarify the role of this soluble dietary fiber on glucose and lipid metabolism under the calorie-matched condition.

Materials And Methods: Eight-week-old male C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat/high-sucrose based diet containing maltodextrin or inulin for 12 weeks through calorie-matched pair feeding.

Background: Although transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) therapy continues to grow, there have been concerns about the occurrence of hypoattenuating leaflet thickening (HALT), which may affect prosthesis function or durability. This study aimed to examine prosthesis frame factors and correlate their extent to the frequency of HALT and clinical outcomes.

Methods: We prospectively examined 565 patients with cardiac computed tomography screening for HALT at 30 days after balloon-expandable SAPIEN3 and self-expanding EVOLUT TAVR.

Importance: Chronic aortic regurgitation (AR) causes left ventricular (LV) volume overload, which results in progressive LV remodeling negatively affecting outcomes. Whether cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) volumetric quantification can provide incremental risk stratification over standard clinical and echocardiographic evaluation in patients with chronic moderate or severe AR is unknown.

Objective: To compare LV remodeling measurements by CMR and echocardiography between patients with and without heart failure symptoms and to verify the association of remodeling measurements of patients with chronic moderate or severe AR but no or minimal symptoms with clinical outcomes receiving medical management.

Purpose: An episodic increase in transcutaneous carbon dioxide pressure (PtcCO) is often recognized in patients with advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by overnight PtcCO monitoring. This phenomenon, called episodic nocturnal hypercapnia (eNH), mainly corresponds to rapid eye movement (REM) sleep-related hypoventilation. However, it is unclear whether eNH is associated with the frequency of COPD exacerbation.

Article Synopsis
  • Centrilobular emphysema (CLE) and paraseptal emphysema (PSE) are types of lung damage often found in smokers who show preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm), but their prevalence and effects aren't clearly understood yet.
  • A study conducted across multiple centers found that PRISm was present in about 8.2% of never-smokers and 11.3% of smokers, with similar rates of CLE and PSE in smokers compared to those with normal lung function.
  • The research indicated that while both CLE and PSE are common in smokers with PRISm, only CLE was linked to reduced lung function and air-trapping, highlighting a distinction in how these two
