Objective: To investigate prevalence of anti-Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) antibodies in sera of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients.

Methods: Anti-PTX3 and PTX3 levels were analysed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays in sera from unselected patients with AAV and compared with patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, n = 130), other connective tissue diseases (CTDs, n = 97) and matched healthy controls (n = 97). Optical density (OD) cut-off for positive anti-PTX3 antibodies was determined by ROC curve analysis and set as 0.

Background: QconCATs are quantitative concatamers for proteomic applications that yield stoichiometric quantities of sets of stable isotope-labelled internal standards. However, changing a QconCAT design, for example, to replace poorly performing peptide standards has been a protracted process.

Results: We report a new approach to the assembly and construction of QconCATs, based on synthetic biology precepts of biobricks, making use of loop assembly to construct larger entities from individual biobricks.

Pharmaceuticals and heavy metals are contaminants present in groundwaters, which are the main source of drinking water in most parts of the world. In the northwest region of Spain, Galicia, groundwater harvesting is a common practice for drinking water supply, crop irrigation, cattle watering, as well as recreational use such as filling pools. In order to assess the quality of Galician groundwaters, the presence of 21 pharmaceuticals and 10 heavy metals was analysed by UPLC-MS/MS and ICP/MS methods, respectively, in a total of 118 groundwater samples from private wells.

The COMPASS Collaboration experiment recently discovered a new isovector resonancelike signal with axial-vector quantum numbers, the a_{1}(1420), decaying to f_{0}(980)π. With a mass too close to and a width smaller than the axial-vector ground state a_{1}(1260), it was immediately interpreted as a new light exotic meson, similar to the X, Y, Z states in the hidden-charm sector. We show that a resonancelike signal fully matching the experimental data is produced by the decay of the a_{1}(1260) resonance into K^{*}(→Kπ)K[over ¯] and subsequent rescattering through a triangle singularity into the coupled f_{0}(980)π channel.

Background: Minimally invasive adrenalectomy represents the treatment of choice of pheochromocytoma (PCC). For large or invasive PCCs, an open approach is currently recommended, in order to ensure complete tumor resection, prevent tumor rupture, avoid local recurrence, and limit perioperative hemodynamic instability. The aim of this study is to analyze perioperative outcomes of laparoscopic adrenalectomies (LAs) for large adrenal PCCs.

To date, no meta-analytical study evaluating the benefits of resistance exercise intervention on muscular strength and power and functional capacity in acute hospitalized older adults was conducted. Then, to synthesize the emerging evidence on the effects of resistance exercise intervention on muscular strength and power and functional capacity in acute hospitalized older adults, two independent authors performed a systematic search (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO) until January 2021. Randomized clinical trials were included regarding the effects of resistance exercise and hospital usual care.

Periodontitis is a prevalent disease characterized by the loss of periodontal supporting tissues, bone, periodontal ligament, and cementum. The application of a bone tissue engineering strategy with Decellularized Human Amniotic Membrane (DAM) with adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) has shown to be convenient and valuable. This study aims to investigate the treatments of a rat periodontal furcation defect model with DAM, ASCs, and a mineralized extracellular matrix (ECM).

The vascular system is essential for embryogenesis, healing, and homeostasis. Dysfunction or deregulated blood vessel function contributes to multiple diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, cancer, hypertension, or vascular malformations. A balance between the formation of new blood vessels, vascular remodeling, and vessel quiescence is fundamental for tissue growth and function.

Purpose Of Review: This is a comprehensive review of the current knowledge on predominant immune cell phenotypes involved in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM).

Recent Findings: Major circulating immune cell subpopulations described in IIM encompass the lymphocyte compartment. An unbalance in T cell subsets seems to consistently affect the peripheral and muscle compartment, with a predominance of CD4+ T and B cells in dermatomyositis, CD8+ T cells in polymyositis/inclusion body myositis (IBM) and novel findings highlighting novel proinflammatory T subsets, that is, CD8+Tbet+ and CD28- T cells across different IIM subsets.

Chemical fixation of CO to produce cyclic carbonates can be a green and atomic efficient process. In this work, a series of porphyrazines (Pzs) containing electron-withdrawing groups and central M ions (where M = Mg, Zn, Cu, and Co) were synthesized and investigated as catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO to epoxides. Then, the efficiency of the Pzs was tested by varying cocatalyst type and concentration, epoxide, temperature, and pressure.

Italy was severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. In early March 2020, a series of legislative decrees have been issued, establishing the restrictions that all Italian citizens are required to respect, according to which it is strictly forbidden to leave the house if not for reasons of necessity, health, or work. This qualitative study investigated which aspects clients find helpful or hindering in shifting to group tele-psychodrama due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after participation in an in-person psychodrama group.

This work presents a model-agnostic evaluation of four different models that estimate a disease's basic reproduction number. The evaluation presented is twofold: first, the theory behind each of the models is reviewed and compared; then, each model is tested with eight impartial simulations. All scenarios were constructed in an experimental framework that allows each model to fulfill its assumptions and hence, obtain unbiased results for each case.

Background: Activin receptor-like kinase 1 (ALK1) is an endothelial transmembrane serine threonine kinase receptor for BMP family ligands that plays a critical role in cardiovascular development and pathology. Loss-of-function mutations in the gene cause type 2 hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, a devastating disorder that leads to arteriovenous malformations. Here, we show that ALK1 controls endothelial cell polarization against the direction of blood flow and flow-induced endothelial migration from veins through capillaries into arterioles.
