Food insecurity has been associated with lower nutrient intake as well as lower intake of fruits and vegetables. However, little is known about the association of food insecurity and dietary behaviors, including food choices and preparation methods. This study examines the relationship between food insecurity and dietary behaviors of low-income adults (N = 1,874; 55% Hispanic) who completed the baseline telephone survey for a nutrition education study.

Background: Preeclampsia is associated with increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the antiangiogenic factor, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1). Moreover, recent studies have indicated that chronic sFlt-1 excess causes hypertension in pregnant animals. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of ROS in mediating sFlt-1-induced hypertension in the pregnant rat.

Metastatic renal carcinoma: evaluation of antiangiogenic therapy with dynamic contrast-enhanced CT.

Purpose: To determine whether tumor perfusion parameters assessed by using dynamic contrast material-enhanced computed tomography (CT) could help predict and detect response in patients receiving antiangiogenic therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

Materials And Methods: Institutional ethics committee approval and informed consent were obtained. In two phase-III trials involving 51 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (38 men, 13 women; age range, 30-80 years) receiving antiangiogenic drugs (sorafenib [n = 10], sunitinib [n = 22]), a placebo (n = 12), or interferon alfa (n = 7), serial dynamic contrast-enhanced CT was performed, during 90 seconds before and after injection of 80 mL of iobitridol.

However, the cytotoxicity of other commonly used cancer therapeutics in cells with FA pathway defects remains to be defined. Participants (N = 426) were recruited from a survey conducted in 1999 about clients' utilization of resources intended for homeless people in Montreal and Quebec. Data analyzed in this study were also drawn from three administrative databanks managed by the Quebec health care system.

The aim of this study is to describe distinct typologies among mentally ill users of resources for homeless people, in order to inform the targeted development of mental health services to address their varied needs. Data came from a survey of clientele of resources for homeless persons in Montreal and Quebec (N = 757) and this study includes the 369 people from this sample who met DSM-IV criteria for serious mental disorders at any point in their lifetime. A hierarchical logistic regression analysis was run with mental health service utilization in the past 12 months (dependent variable), and variables from Pescosolido's Model (independent variables).

Contribution of diffusion-weighted MR imaging for predicting benignity of complex adnexal masses.
