Gas chromatography was used in blood samples for determining human exposure to organophosphate insecticides. The identification is difficult beyond 48 hr after exposure because of the high reactivity of these compounds.

The maximization test applied on the Hartley Guinea Pig and the mast cell degranulation test performed on the sensibilised Guinea Pig serum resulted in: 1, extreme allergenicity; 2, the formation of circulating antibodies anti delta9 THC.

Lindane, in contact with cultured foetal chicken liver cells over a period of 40 hours, has a biphasic action on the lysosomal system of the cells. For the concentrations between 1 micronM and 25 micronM not affecting the cellular growth, the decrease of the acid phosphatase activity and the absence of any reaction in the Golgi saccules might indicate a reduction in the synthesis of the lysosomal enzyme. For the concentrations above 25 micronM slowing down cellular growth, acid phosphatase activity is partialrogeneous content and an increase in the relative acid phosphatase activity in the soluble extralysosomal fraction, for doses over 150 micronM, might indicate the development of the phenomenon of autophagocytosis.

A number of process parameters are discussed. Combination of gel filtration and ultrafiltration provides an interesting alternative to the currently used systems.

Adequately reproducible correlations are found between the pH measurements in protein solutions with an ethanol content of up to 40% at temperatures as low as -8 degrees C and the determination in diluted samples at room temperature using the standard procedure.

The toxicant action on hepatocytes of "paraquat" introduced at very low concentrations in an in vitro culture of such cells is here established. Mitoses are slowed down and moreover, the lysosomial system is impaired, thus inducing a decrease in its enzymic reactions and the proliferation of very large vesicles.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe hydroxyimino-1 methyl-4 pentanone-2 was selected among several oximes because of its highly successful restoring action on dog plasmatic cholinesterases inhibited by DFP (diisopropyl fluorophosphate). During the in vitro study, this storing action was tested on 10 organophosphates. Results are compared to those obtained when contrathion is used.

Here is an attempt to establish that a close relation exists between the chemical formulae of organophosphates and their affinities for lipids, proteins and water. We carried out this study on two systems similar to human plasma. First, each component was sorted, then the organophosphates were detected and titrated by gas chromatography with flame photometry detector.
