Narrowband filter radiometer for ground-based measurements of global ultraviolet solar irradiance and total ozone.

The ultraviolet narrowband filter radiometer (UV-RAD) designed by the authors to take ground-based measurements of UV solar irradiance, total ozone, and biological dose rate is described, together with the main characteristics of the seven blocked filters mounted on it, all of which have full widths at half maxima that range 0.67 to 0.98 nm.

African-American caregivers' expectations of physicians: gaining insights into the key issues of caregivers' concerns.

This qualitative study was done to determine what expectations, if any, African-American caregivers' have of physicians; what were the various causes of caregivers' distress, and what were the participants' perceived level of satisfaction or lack of satisfaction with the physician-patient-caregiver relationship The participants in this current study were either providing or had provided assistance in the activities of daily living of elders diagnosed with Alzheimer's or dementia. Focus group methodology was used and participants were recruited from Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. A total of 13 participants, whose mean age was 53.

Perceived needs of African-American caregivers of elders with dementia.

To assess the perceived needs of African-American caregivers and their expectations of the health care system, perceived level of success and satisfaction in meeting their needs, and their level of distress, we convened two focus groups at a local church in Oklahoma City, OK to discuss three questions. Responses were qualitatively analyzed for common themes. The groups comprised 13 African-American caregivers of demented elders.

Phase shift of stepwise reflectivity profile mirrors.

The effects of phase shifts in laser beams transmitted by output couplers with a stepwise reflectivity profile have been experimentally investigated with a XeCl laser. It is shown that the phase distortions of the cavity output coupler affect significantly the propagation properties of the output laser beam but do not affect the output beam energy and pulse width.

The prevalence of later life family concerns in the marriage and family therapy journal literature (1976-1985): a content analysis*.

This study assessed the frequency with which the marital and family therapy journal literature focused on problems associated with aging in a family context. Content analysis was used to assess the prevalence of later life family concerns in two leading journals, Family Process and the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, during a 10-year period (1976-1985). Results indicate that neither journal covered later life family issues to any appreciable degree.
