One hundred twenty below-elbow child amputees compared cosmetically identical myoelectric (MYO) and body-powered (BP) hands after wearing each for 3 months; 78% chose the MYO and 22% chose the BP. However, at 2-year follow-up, only 44% wore the MYO, 33% used a BP hand or hook, and 23% became nonwearers (NW). Eighty percent of children aged > or = 8 years used active prosthetic prehension for both the MYO and BP prostheses.

The frameworks of Erikson (1963) and Butler (1963) were used to design this descriptive study that investigated the relationships among life review, ego integrity, and death anxiety in older adults. Three hypotheses were proposed: (a) the greater the life review, the higher the ego integrity; (b) the greater the life review, the lower the death anxiety; (c) the higher the ego integrity, the lower the death anxiety. The sample consisted of 115 female and male volunteers between the ages of 65 and 93.

The purpose of this study was (1) to confirm that CsA enhances platelet sensitivity to the soluble agonists, adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and epinephrine (EPI), and (2) to determine if this enhancement is mediated by alteration in the availability of platelet surface fibrinogen receptors, a final mediator of platelet activation. Mean log dose of ADP required to achieve complete second-wave platelet aggregation in vitro decreased from 1.

A congenital arrector pili hamartoma is a neoplasm that presents as multiple or solitary dermal nodules in a dermatomal distribution. To elucidate and clarify its histogenesis, a lesion derived from a 3-year-old boy was studied by light microscopy, indirect immunofluorescence, using antibodies against basal lamina constituents and against interstitial matrix components, and electron microscopy. In addition, a rabbit antibody specific for bovine smooth-muscle myosin was used.
