Monocytes are crucial players in innate immunity. The human cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection has significant impacts on monocyte effector functions and gene expression. CMV, a β-herpesvirus, disrupts key monocyte roles, including phagocytosis, antigen presentation, cytokine production, and migration, impairing their ability to combat pathogens and activate adaptive immune responses.

Do survey results depend on these variations? This controlled experiment randomized participants to dichotomous or trichotomous measures of vaccine intentions (with "Yes" and "No" options presented in different orders). Intentions were measured separately for COVID-19, its booster, and influenza vaccines.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA clinical decision support (CDS) tool for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) was developed to align health systems with clinical guidelines detailed in the MASH Clinical Care Pathway and improve patients' proactive self-management of their disease. The tool includes a provider-facing web-based application and a mobile application (app) for patients. This protocol outlines a pilot study that will systematically evaluate the implementation of the tool in real-world clinical practice settings.

This study aimed to quantify the cardiovascular-event risk associated with NASH, independent of diabetes status.
Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using the 2017-2020 NHANES pre-pandemic cycle.
Objective: Laryngeal dystonia (LD), previously termed spasmodic dysphonia, is an isolated focal dystonia that involves involuntary, uncontrolled contractions of the laryngeal muscles during speech. It is a severely disabling condition affecting patients' work and social lives through prevention of normal speech production. Our understanding of the pathophysiology of LD and available therapeutic options are currently limited.

Youth participatory action research (YPAR) offers opportunities to inform youth vaccine communication at the local and population level. However, few studies have integrated systematic health communication research with YPAR.

Most male patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer present with breast complaints and/or a strong family history of cancer. Here, we will present a 47-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with bilateral ductal carcinoma in situ during a routine gynecomastia surgery after massive weight loss.

We propose youth participatory action communication research (YPACR) as a model for health campaign development that engages youth perspectives in applying systematic theory-informed communication research to addressing youth-identified health priorities. YPACR informed a series of paid high school internship programs in West Philadelphia, in which youth interns identified mental health help-seeking communication as a need among peers.

Among challenges to application of clinical xenotransplantation are unknown risks of transmission of animal microbes to immunosuppressed recipients or the community. Experience in allotransplantation and in preclinical models suggests that viral infections are the greatest concern.

The finding of incidental moderate or severe CAC on non-cardiac non-contrast chest CT correlates with a CAC score ≥ 100 Agatston units, a guideline-based indication for a clinician-patient discussion regarding the initiation of statin therapy. In contemporary practice, whether the presence and severity of incidental CAC are routinely reported on such CT scans of the chest is unknown.

Objective: To characterize the impact of cirrhosis and progression to liver-related events on costs and health care resource use (HCRU) among MASH patients in the United States.
Methods: The study cohort included patients with diagnosed nonalcoholic steatohepatitis ( code K75.
The selective removal of dysfunctional mitochondria, a process termed mitophagy, is critical for cellular health and impairments have been linked to aging, Parkinson disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions. A central mitophagy pathway is orchestrated by the ubiquitin (Ub) kinase PINK1 together with the E3 Ub ligase PRKN/Parkin. The decoration of damaged mitochondrial domains with phosphorylated Ub (p-S65-Ub) mediates their elimination though the autophagy system.

Indocyanine green-lymphangiography has been instrumental in characterizing this dysfunction in the extremity and can be applied to other regions. Previous work has established a validated Pittsburgh Trunk Lymphedema Staging System to characterize such affected areas.
