The professional identity of scientists has historically been cultivated to value research over teaching, which can undermine initiatives that aim to reform science education. Course-Based Research Experiences (CRE) and the inclusive Research and Education Communities (iREC) are two successful and impactful reform efforts that integrate research and teaching. To develop a model for assessing and grading students engaged in this type of learning experience, the assessment aims and practices of a community of experienced course-based research instructors were collected and analyzed. The number of concepts identified, depth of data, cost and time implications, and value of the patient insights generated were explored and compared for each method.
Methods: Keyword searches in bibliographic databases and review of abstracts identified 120 relevant publications; in-depth targeted literature review of the qualitative studies identified key symptoms/functioning concepts.
Background: can function as a tumor suppresser and has been shown to be elevated in both endometriotic lesion tissue and serum from women with endometriosis. To further explore the role of miR-451a in the pathophysiology of endometriosis, specifically, further evaluating its association with the tumor suppressor, phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), we examined their expression in individual endometriotic lesion tissue to gain insight into their relationship and further explore if regulates PTEN expression.
Methods: A total of 55 red, peritoneal endometriotic lesions and matched eutopic endometrial specimens were obtained from 46 patients with endometriosis.
Transcriptome analyses performed in both human and zebrafish indicate strong expression of Apoe and Apoc1 by microglia. Apoe expression by microglia is well appreciated, but Apoc1 expression has not been well-examined. Objective: The purpose of the present study is to investigate patterns and predictors of family violence, such as child maltreatment and harsh punishment, during the first eight weeks of the pandemic after initial stay-at-home orders in North Carolina.
