MONICET: The Azores whale watching contribution to cetacean monitoring.

Background: The Azores islands have been historically linked to cetaceans, becoming an example of a successful transition from whaling to whale watching. Twenty-eight cetacean species have been sighted in these waters, making the archipelago one of the most recognised whale and dolphin watching destinations worldwide. The business is well-established in the region, operates in four of the nine islands year-round or seasonally and provides an excellent opportunity to collect long term information on cetacean distribution and abundance in an affordable way.

"Inherited cardiovascular disease mindset" can identify concealed inherited conditions at cardio-oncology evaluation: An opportunistic screening.

Introduction: Baseline cardiovascular (CV) risk stratification is recommended in all cancer patients. Integrating all clinical information (personal/family history, ECG and echocardiogram) can properly identify high-risk patients. We aimed to evaluate the concealed inherited CV conditions detected in mandatory CV screening performed at a Cardio-Oncology Unit.

Fluidity in Reporting Gender Identity Labels in a Sample of Transgender and Gender Diverse Adolescents and Young Adults, Los Angeles, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana, 2017-2019.

Objectives: Treating gender identity as a fixed characteristic may contribute to considerable misclassification and hinder accurate characterization of health inequities and the design of effective preventive interventions for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) adolescents and young adults. We examined changes in how an ethnically and racially diverse sample of TGD adolescents and young adults reported their gender identity over time, the implications of this fluidity on public health, and the potential effects of misclassification of gender identity.

Methods: We recruited 235 TGD adolescents and young adults (aged 15-24 y) in Los Angeles, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana, from May 2017 through August 2019 to participate in an HIV intervention study.

Evidence for the Higgs Boson Decay to a Z Boson and a Photon at the LHC.

The first evidence for the Higgs boson decay to a Z boson and a photon is presented, with a statistical significance of 3.4 standard deviations. The result is derived from a combined analysis of the searches performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations with proton-proton collision datasets collected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from 2015 to 2018.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF): an effect biomarker of neurodevelopment in human biomonitoring programs.

The present narrative review summarizes recent findings focusing on the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) as a biomarker of effect for neurodevelopmental alterations during adolescence, based on health effects of exposure to environmental chemical pollutants. To this end, information was gathered from the PubMed database and the results obtained in the European project Human Biomonitoring for Europe (HBM4EU), in which BDNF was measured at two levels of biological organization: total BDNF protein (serum) and gene DNA methylation (whole blood) levels. The present study evaluates the response to betahistine in patients who presented vestibular drops attacks in the context of Ménière's disease (MD) and the factors that can predict an unfavorable response to it. A total of 43 patients were analyzed, out of which 33 were diagnosed with MD. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection.

State of the Science of Scale-Up of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Interventions in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Scoping Review.

Purpose: Cancer deaths in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) will nearly double by 2040. Available evidence-based interventions (EBIs) for cancer prevention and early detection can reduce cancer-related mortality, yet there is a lack of evidence on effectively scaling these EBIs in LMIC settings.

Methods: We conducted a scoping review to identify published literature from six databases between 2012 and 2022 that described efforts for scaling cancer prevention and early detection EBIs in LMICs.

Enhanced Tumor Targeting of Radiolabeled Mouse/Human Chimeric Anti-Tn Antibody in Losartan-Treated Mice Bearing Tn-Expressing Lung Tumors.

ChiTn, a mouse/human chimeric anti-Tn monoclonal antibody, was radiolabeled with iodine-131 (I) and technetium-99m (Tc) to assess its biodistribution and internalization in Tn-expressing (Tn+) and wild-type (Tn-) LL/2 lung cancer cells. Selective accumulation and gradual internalization of ChiTn were observed in Tn+ cells. Biodistribution in mice with both Tn+ or Tn- lung tumors indicated that the uptake of radiolabeled ChiTn within tumors increased over time.
