The assessment and management of facial trauma in an acute setting is one of the core services provided by oral and maxillofacial units in the United Kingdom. Imaging is a pre-requisite for appropriate diagnosis and treatment planning, with a combination of plain radiographs and medical-grade CT being the mainstay. However, the emergence of cone beam CT in recent years has led to its wider applications, including facial trauma assessment.

Background: Monitoring safety outcomes following COVID-19 vaccination is critical for understanding vaccine safety especially when used in key populations such as elderly persons age 65 years and older who can benefit greatly from vaccination. We present new findings from a nationally representative early warning system that may expand the safety knowledge base to further public trust and inform decision making on vaccine safety by government agencies, healthcare providers, interested stakeholders, and the public.

Methods: We evaluated 14 outcomes of interest following COVID-19 vaccination using the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data covering 30,712,101 elderly persons.

Objective: To determine predictors of adverse outcomes in peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM).

Methods And Results: We conducted a multi-center cohort study across four centers to identify subjects with PPCM with the following criteria: LVEF <40%, development of heart failure within the last month of pregnancy or within 5 months of delivery and no other identifiable cause of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Outcomes included 1) survival free from major adverse events (need for extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation, ventricular assist device, orthotopic heart transplantation or death) and 2) LVEF recovery ≥ 50%.

Cardiovascular disease remains a major contributor to rising maternal morbidity and mortality. Both the pregnant woman and fetus are exposed to many potential complications as a result of the physiologic changes of pregnancy. These changes can exacerbate existing cardiac disease, as well as lead to the development of de novo issues during gestation, delivery, and the postnatal period.

Importance: The Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), established as part of the Quality Payment Program, is a Medicare value-based payment program that evaluates clinicians' performance across 4 categories: quality, cost, promoting interoperability, and improvement activities. The cost category includes novel episode-based measures designed for targeted evaluation of the resource use of specific conditions. This report describes the development of episode-based cost measures and their role in the shift from volume-based to value-based purchasing.

Medicare's Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) includes episode-based cost measures that evaluate Medicare expenditures for specific conditions and procedures. These measures compare clinicians' cost performance and, along with other MIPS category scores, determine Medicare Part B clinician payment adjustments. The measures do not include risk adjustment for social risk factors.

Based on our results of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) center-of-curvature tests where we were able to measure dynamic amplitudes of Zernike terms to the order of a few picometers, we have applied the same approach to determine if it is possible to measure the accuracy of higher-order Zernike terms as a function of time rather than frequency, i.e., static measurements in place of measuring the amplitude of frequency components.

Objective: Very few controlled trials have evaluated targeted treatment methods for childhood selective mutism (SM); the availability of evidence-based services remains limited. This study is the first controlled trial to evaluate an intensive group behavioral treatment (IGBT) for children with SM.

Method: Twenty-nine children with SM (5-9 years; 76% female; 35% ethnic minority) were randomized to immediate SM 5-day IGBT or to a 4-week waitlist with psychoeducational resources (WLP), and were assessed at Week 4 and again 8 weeks into the following school year.

Future space observatory missions are forecasting the need for sensing and controlling wavefront error and system alignment stability to picometer scale. Picometer stability performance demands precision knowledge of the mirror and metering structure materials to the same degree. A high-speed electronic speckle pattern interferometer was designed and built to demonstrate measurements of both static and dynamic responses of picometer amplitudes in materials of diffuse surface subjected to very low energy disturbances.

As our population ages, the ability to take time off to care for an ill family member or close friend without losing income or a job is a growing social, health, and economic issue for American families. Therefore, the need for paid family leave policies for workers with caregiving responsibilities is an important topic for employers and policymakers, in the clinical care of older adults, and at kitchen tables across the United States. Despite this growing need, paid family leave is not available to most workers, and there is no national paid family leave policy.

Objective: Supratherapeutic doses of methylphenidate activate μ-opioid receptors, which are linked to euphoria. This study assessed whether naltrexone, a mixed μ-opioid antagonist, may attenuate the euphoric effects of stimulants, thereby minimizing their abuse potential in subjects with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Methods: We conducted a 6-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial of naltrexone in adults with DSM-IV ADHD receiving open treatment with a long-acting formulation of methylphenidate (January 2013 to June 2015).

Background: Radiation-associated angiosarcoma of the breast (RAAS) is a rare complication of adjuvant radiotherapy associated with poor survival. The British Sarcoma Group guidelines recommend that all angiosarcomas are referred to a sarcoma multidisciplinary team, although there is no recommendation that patients are managed within a sarcoma service. The aims of this study were to compare survival, complete excision rates and local recurrence rates of patients managed within a sarcoma service and those managed within local hospitals.

Studies point to parental experiential avoidance (EA) as a potential correlate of maladaptive parenting behaviors associated with child anxiety. However, research has not examined the relationship between EA and parental accommodation of child anxiety, nor the extent to which parental negative beliefs about child anxiety help explain such a relationship. In a sample of mothers (N = 45) of anxious and non-anxious children, the present study investigated the potential link between maternal EA and accommodation of child anxiety and whether this link may be indirectly accounted for via maternal negative beliefs about child anxiety.

Technological advances provide tremendous opportunities for couple and family interventions to overcome logistical, financial, and stigma-related barriers to treatment access. Given technology's ability to facilitate, augment, or at times even substitute for face-to-face interventions, it is important to consider the appropriate role of different technologies in treatment and how that may vary across specific instances of technology use. To that end, this article reviews the potential contributions of telemental health (aka, telehealth; e.
