Background: Only few cases of acute renal failure (ARF) requiring dialysis have been reported in patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (NS). This study aims to better define the clinical outcome and treatment of this condition.
Methods: A pilot enquiry regarding the occurrence of ARF requiring dialysis in patients with NS and biopsy proven minimal changes (MC) or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) was conducted among 5 nephrology centers.
Aim: To analyse the methods used to manage and monitor sedoanalgesia at Italian paediatric intensive care units (ICUs).
Methods: Data were collected by administering a questionnaire that aimed to investigate whether ICUs adopted a validated protocol to manage sedoanalgesia.
Results: The results revealed that a majority of the ICUs adopt a protocol for dealing with sedation and analgesia, but this protocol is implemented with difficulty or not at all in routine clinical practice.

In a first set of experiments with cortico-cerebral slices from young animals, the compounds glyoxal or methylglyoxal at 400 microM, increased the oxidation of alanine, leucine and glycine to CO(2) and decreased the protein synthesis from these amino acids. Lipid synthesis from alanine, leucine and glycine was not changed in the cortico-cerebral slices from young rats after glyoxals exposure.

SH + TH cells exhibit increased levels of dopamine (DA) compared to SH cells. Incubation with hydrogen peroxide or 6-hydroxydopamine (10-100microM) for 24 h caused a significant reduction in cell viability and increased apoptosis in both cell types.
