Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles (EVs) constituting fully biological, cell-derived nanovesicles with great potential in cell-to-cell communication and drug delivery applications. The current gold standard for EV labeling and tracking is represented by fluorescent lipophilic dyes which, however, importantly lack selectivity, due to their unconditional affinity for lipids. Herein, an alternative EV fluorescent labeling approach is in-depth evaluated, by taking advantage of green fluorescent protein (GFP) farnesylation (GFP-f), a post-translational modification to directly anchor GFP to the EV membrane.

Background: The treatment of psoriasis has made considerable progress with biologicals, including tumor necrosis factor inhibitors, and recently, monoclonal antibodies inhibiting directly interleukin (IL) 17, IL-23, or both IL-12/23. Background: Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors are gaining interest in the context of pulmonary pathologies. Patients with high-grade glioma (HGG) have an extremely poor prognosis compounded by a lack of advancement in clinical care over the past few decades. Regardless of classification, most newly diagnosed patients receive the same treatment, radiation and temozolomide (RT/TMZ). We developed a functional precision oncology test that prospectively identifies individual patient's response to this treatment regimen.

Evaluation of ERAS protocol implementation on complex spine surgery complications and length of stay: a single institution study.

Background Context: With the goal of improving patient outcomes, the Integrated Spine Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center implemented an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol which includes pre- and postsurgery guidelines. Numerous studies have shown benefit of implementation of ERAS protocols to standardize perioperative care in line with best practices; however, the literature on complication rates, LOS, and readmissions shows mixed results.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of the ERAS protocol implementation on complication rates in the perioperative period, as well as hospital and ICU length of stay and hospital re-admission rates.

A tumor nano-lysate "TNL" vaccine comprised of sonicated 4T1 cells was developed, characterized and implemented for the prevention of triple-negative breast cancer. This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the immune response behind the success of the vaccine in vivo, through use of ex vivo and in vivo assays. The aim was to design and evaluate a chitosan-based conjugate providing high mucoadhesiveness and antibacterial activity for ocular infections treatment. Chitosan was conjugated with maleic acid via amide bond formation and infrared spectroscopy. Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, fibrosing interstitial pneumonia of unknown cause that is associated with radiological and/or histological features of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). A mean survival of 2-5 years was reported previously to the advent of antifibrotics. According to clinical trials, nintedanib and pirfenidone induce a significant delay in functional decline, with a favorable impact on survival.

Ex vivo activation of dendritic cells (DCs) has been widely explored for targeted therapies, although these treatments remain expensive. Reducing treatment costs while enhancing cell activation could help to make immunotherapies more accessible. Background: Motor function in patients with spinal metastatic disease (SMD) directly impacts a patient's ability to receive systemic therapy and overall survival. Spine surgeons may be in the challenging position to advise a patient on expected motor function outcomes and determine a patient's suitability as a surgical candidate. We present this study to provide this critical information on anticipated motor function change to spine surgeons.

Telehealth Clinical Appropriateness and Quality.

Contrary to common perception, telehealth is not simply a substitute for in-person care. With an array of modalities-live audio-video, asynchronous patient communication, and remote patient monitoring, to name a few-telehealth creates entirely new avenues of care delivery (Table 1). Although our current care model is reactive-relying on episodic visits to an office or hospital-telehealth allows us to be proactive, filling in the gaps to provide a continuum of care.
