Hypertension
June 2023
Background: Sex differences in the pathogenesis of hypertension exist. While gut microbiota (GM) has been associated with hypertension, it is unclear whether there are sex-linked differences in the association between GM and hypertension.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate the sex differences in associations between GM characterized by shotgun sequencing, GM-derived short-chain fatty acids, and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure in 241 Hong Kong Chinese (113 men and 128 women; mean age, 54±6 years).
Context: Acupressure is a popular nonpharmacological intervention that is increasingly proven to effectively alleviate symptoms in patients with cancer. However, the effects of self-acupressure on cancer symptom management are less clear.
Objectives: This systematic review is the first to summarize the current experimental evidence on self-acupressure for symptom management in cancer patients.
The function of interleukin-22 (IL-22) in intestinal barrier homeostasis remains controversial. Here, we map the transcriptional landscape regulated by IL-22 in human colonic epithelial organoids and evaluate the biological, functional and clinical significance of the IL-22 mediated pathways in ulcerative colitis (UC). We show that IL-22 regulated pro-inflammatory pathways are involved in microbial recognition, cancer and immune cell chemotaxis; most prominently those involving CXCR2 neutrophils.

We used Duplex Sequencing (DS), a high-accuracy error-corrected sequencing technology, to analyze mutation induction across twenty 2.4 kb intergenic and genic targets in the bone marrow of MutaMouse males exposed to benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), a widespread environmental pollutant.

Methods: We included patients with proximal occlusions of the anterior circulation from the second and first cohorts of the MR CLEAN (Multicenter Randomized Clinical trial of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Netherlands) Registry (March 2014 to June 2016; June 2016 to November 2017, respectively).
Background: The value of administering intravenous alteplase before endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke has not been studied extensively, particularly in non-Asian populations.
Methods: We performed an open-label, multicenter, randomized trial in Europe involving patients with stroke who presented directly to a hospital that was capable of providing EVT and who were eligible for intravenous alteplase and EVT. Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive EVT alone or intravenous alteplase followed by EVT (the standard of care).

February 2020
Background And Purpose: This study aimed to determine the maximum tolerated dose and to evaluate the overall safety and tolerability of single doses of PF-05230907 in subjects with acute intracerebral hemorrhage.
Methods: Individuals presenting with intracerebral hemorrhage were enrolled in a phase 1, multicenter, open-label clinical trial. A Bayesian modified continual reassessment method design based on treatment-emergent thromboembolic or ischemic events was adopted.
Background And Purpose: This study explored the effectiveness of a family-based rugby programme to improve the parent-child relationship for children with ADHD and their parents.
Materials And Methods: A total of 17 Chinese families (12 fathers and 13 mothers) of children (in early primary grades) with ADHD participated in this study. Mixed methods, including questionnaires, parent focus groups, parental reflective journals, and interviews with children, were adopted.

Flavones are a major class of flavonoids with a wide range of physiological functions in plants. They are constitutively accumulated as C-glycosides and O-linked conjugates in vegetative tissues of grasses. It has long been presumed that the two structural modifications of flavones occur through independent metabolic routes.

Methods: We assessed the factors associated with previously diagnosed diabetes among 620 middle-aged women with or at risk for HIV infection.
