The distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the ocean is affected by the sorption-desorption process of sediment particles. This process is determined by the concentration of PAHs in seawater, water temperature, and organic matter content of sediment particles. Quantitative relationships between the net sorption rates (=the difference of sorption and desorption rates) and these factors have not been established yet and used in PAH transport models.

However, the cell sorting procedure can impact the viability and metabolic state of cells. Here, we performed a comparative study and evaluated the impact of traditional high-pressure charged droplet-based and microfluidic chip-based sorting on the metabolic and phosphoproteomic profile of different cell types.

When a patient carries two different potentially causal variants in a gene for a given disorder, accurate diagnosis requires determining that these two variants occur on different copies of the chromosome (i.e.

Existing studies on the association between temperatures and cardiovascular deaths have been limited in geographic zones and have generally considered associations with total cardiovascular deaths rather than cause-specific cardiovascular deaths.
Methods: We used unified data collection protocols within the Multi-Country Multi-City Collaborative Network to assemble a database of daily counts of specific cardiovascular causes of death from 567 cities in 27 countries across 5 continents in overlapping periods ranging from 1979 to 2019.
A detailed chemical investigation of the South China Sea soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi has yield seven undescribed cembranoids, namely isoehrenbergol D and sarcoehrenolides F-K embodying a rare α,β-unsaturated-lactone moiety at C-6 to C-19, along with two known related compounds, ehrenbergol D and sarcoehrenolide A. Their structures and absolute configurations were unambiguously established in the light of extensive spectroscopic data analysis, modified Mosher's method, X-ray diffraction analysis, and quantum chemical computation method. In a bioassay for α-glucosidase inhibition, ehrenbergol D was evaluated as α-glucosidase inhibitor with an IC value of 13.

Lysine crotonylation, a newly identified and important type of posttranslational modification, plays a key role in many aspects of cell metabolism. However, little is known about its functions in Pinellia ternata.

Polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) shows relatively high two-electron ORR selectivity for HO production but still limited low HO production efficiency due to slow exciton dissociation. Herein, we constructed a heptazine/triazine layer stacked carbon nitride heterojunction with fluorine/potassium (F/K) dual sites (FKHTCN).

Here, a fluorine-modified cobalt catalyst is synthesized via electroreduction of a Co(OH)F precursor that exhibits high activity for electrocatalytic hydrogenation of quinolines by using HO as the hydrogen source to produce 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines with up to 99% selectivity and 94% isolated yield under ambient conditions. Fluorine surface-sites are shown to enhance the adsorption of quinolines and promote water activation to produce active atomic hydrogen (H*) by forming F-K(HO) networks.

We previously showed that macrophages in the atherogenic plaque undergo RIPK3 (receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 3)-MLKL (mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein)-dependent programmed necroptosis in response to sterile ligands such as oxidized low-density lipoprotein and damage-associated molecular patterns and that necroptosis is active in advanced atherosclerotic plaques. Upstream of the RIPK3-MLKL necroptotic machinery lies RIPK1 (receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 1), which acts as a master switch that controls whether the cell undergoes NF-κB (nuclear factor κ-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells)-dependent inflammation, caspase-dependent apoptosis, or necroptosis in response to extracellular stimuli.

As an important post-translation modification, lysine acetylation participates in diverse biological functions. However, little is known regarding the quantitative acetylproteome characterization during wheat seed germination.

Both single-genome sequencing (SGS) and integration site analysis (ISA) provide useful information regarding the structure of persistent HIV DNA populations; however, until recently, there was no way to link integration sites to their cognate proviral sequences. Here, we used multiple-displacement amplification (MDA) of cellular DNA diluted to a proviral endpoint to obtain full-length proviral sequences and their corresponding sites of integration.

These samples present a thermodynamically stable phase formation sequence from the hexagonal cylinder phase (plane group of 6), to the Frank-Kasper (F-K) A15 phase (space group of 3̅), and further to the F-K σ phase (space group of 4/), with increasing the number of MPOSS in a single molecule (, from 2 to 6). Moreover, for DPOSS-MPOSS and DPOSS-MPOSS, an intriguing dodecagonal quasicrystal (DQC) structure has been identified and revealed as a kinetic favorable metastable phase at lower temperatures, while the thermodynamically stable phase is the σ phase.

Frank-Kasper (F-K) and quasicrystal phases were originally identified in metal alloys and only sporadically reported in soft materials. These unconventional sphere-packing schemes open up possibilities to design materials with different properties. The challenge in soft materials is how to correlate complex phases built from spheres with the tunable parameters of chemical composition and molecular architecture.
