Designing molecular receptors that bind anions in water is a significant challenge, and an even greater difficulty lies in using these receptors to remove anions from water without resorting to the hazardous liquid-liquid extraction approach. We here demonstrate an effective and synthetically simple strategy toward these goals by exploiting ion-pair assembly of macrocycles. Our anion binding ensemble consists of an octa-chloro tetra-urea macrocyclic anion receptor (ClTU), which forms water-dispersible aggregates, and a tetra-cationic fluorescent dye 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(1-methyl-4-pyridinio)porphyrin (TMPyP4), which provides Coulombic stabilization and fluorescence reporting of anion binding in an ion-pair assembly.

Fifteen sesquiterpenoids, including five previously undescribed monomers with oxidative rearranged skeletons (sarglabenoids A-E, 1-5) and three previously unreported lindenane [2 + 2] dimers (sarglabenoids F-H, 6-8), alongside seven related precursors (9-15), were isolated from the root of Sarcandra glabra. The structures of these compounds were elucidated using a combination of high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, one-dimensional and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the circular dichroism exciton chirality method, electronic circular dichroism, and nuclear magnetic resonance calculations integrated with DP4+ analysis. Compounds 1 and 2 feature an unique 5/5 spiro ring system, which is likely derived from a pinacol rearrangement of precursor 14.

The safety and cycle stability of lithium metal batteries (LMBs) under conditions of high cut-off voltage and fast charging put forward higher requirements for electrolytes. Here, a sulfonate-based deep eutectic electrolyte (DEE) resulting from the eutectic effect between solid sultone and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide without any other additives is reported. The intermolecular coordination effect triggers this eutectic phenomenon, as evidenced with nuclear magnetic resonance, and thus the electrochemical behavior of the DEE can be controlled by jointly regulating the coordination effects of F···H and Li···O intermolecular interactions.

Three novel alkali metal fluoroaluminophosphates, Li[AlPOF(OH)](HO) and [Al(PO)F(HO)]( = K, Rb), were designed and synthesized by using low-temperature flux methods. They crystallized in polar space groups and 222, respectively. Li[AlPOF(OH)](HO) features a unique two-dimensional layered structure of fluoroaluminophosphate [AlPOF(OH)], composed of alternately connected AlFO octahedra and PO tetrahedra.

Purpose To evaluate the performance of a high-dynamic-range quantitative susceptibility mapping (HDR-QSM) cardiac MRI technique to detect intramyocardial hemorrhage (IMH) and quantify iron content using phantom and canine models. Thirteen new microperfuranones, including five pairs of enantiomers, (±)-nigenolides A-E (1a/1b-5a/5b), and three racemate nigenolides F-H (6-8), together with four known analogues (9-12) were isolated from a deep-sea-derived Aspergillus niger 3A00562. The absolute configurations of the five pairs of enantiomers were determined by the comparison of the calculated and experimental ECD spectra. Scoparodane C (1), a diterpenoid with a rare 3,4-seco-3-nor-2,11-epoxy-ent-clerodane scaffold, was obtained from the aerial parts of Isodon scoparius, along with isocopariusines A-E (2-6), five ent-clerodanoids featuring a 5/6-fused ring system, and isocopariusines F-H (7-9), three common ent-clerodanoids. The structures of these previously undescribed compounds were established by a combination of spectroscopic analysis, X-ray diffraction, chemical derivatization, and quantum chemical calculation. Remarkably, isocopariusine B (3) showed strong resistance reversal activity against fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans.
