This case report is about a 15-year-old male trumpet player. The boy's teacher noticed that he contorted his face when playing high notes and thought that this could be due to his protruded upper front teeth; therefore, the teacher advised him to consult an orthodontist. The orthodontist diagnosed an Angle Class II Division 1 malocclusion with a disto-occlusion of 1/4 premolar width, enlarged overjet, palatal bite, spacing of the upper front teeth, and mild crowding of the lower front teeth.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the impact of cleft palate with or without cleft lip (CP±L) on children's performance with wind instruments, particularly focusing on the recorder, flute, and clarinet.
  • The research was conducted at Asociación San Lucas in Peru, where children aged 6-8 receive free music lessons, and included 43 participants with and without CP±L.
  • Results showed no significant performance differences between the groups, but older children with more experience scored higher on blowing duration and sound quality, suggesting that children with CP±L can successfully learn and play wind instruments without being discouraged.

Article Synopsis
  • The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of a water flosser and an interdental brush in reducing gingival inflammation and assessing gingival abrasion.
  • Participants were young adults with moderate gingivitis, randomly assigned to use either a water flosser or an interdental brush along with manual tooth brushing, with measurements taken at baseline, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks.
  • Results showed that, after 4 weeks, the water flosser significantly reduced inflammation more than the interdental brush, leading to better gingival health without any difference in gingival abrasion between the two methods.

Aim: This systematic review synthesizes and evaluates the literature regarding the effect of manual toothbrushes (MTBs) with cross-angled bristle tufts (CA-TB) compared to flat-trim (FT-TB) configurations on plaque scores and parameters of gingival health in adult patients.

Materials And Methods: PubMed-MEDLINE and Cochrane-CENTRAL databases were searched, from their insertion up to August 1st, 2023, to detect appropriate papers. Clinical trials involving adult patients without periodontitis who performed self-brushing were eligible for inclusion.
