Deletion of 17p in cancers: Guilt by (p53) association.

Monoallelic deletion of the short arm of chromosome 17 (del17p) is a recurrent abnormality in cancers with poor outcomes. Best studied in relation to haematological malignancies, associated functional outcomes are attributed mainly to loss and/or dysfunction of TP53, which is located at 17p13.1, but the wider impact of deletion of other genes located on 17p is poorly understood.

Mushroom DNA barcoding project: Sequencing a segment of the 28S rRNA gene.

DNA barcoding is an important molecular methodology for species identification that was developed over the last two decades and it should be covered in the biology bachelor curriculum. Here, we present an example of DNA barcoding by sequencing a segment of the 28S nuclear ribosomal large subunit rRNA gene of wild mushrooms and framing the education in a project form for undergraduate students in biology. Students perform this project in 6-8 weeks, which also includes preparing a poster, writing a report and presenting a paper related to the work in a journal club format.

Early discharge of premature infants < 37 weeks gestational age with nasogastric tube feeding: the new standard of care?

Most premature infants are hospitalised until they no longer need monitoring of vital parameters and are independent of nasogastric tube feeding (NTF). Hospital admission time easily reaches a length of multiple months in extremely preterm infants, but also in late preterms, in whom drinking may be the only problem, hospital admission time can reach weeks. This is a very stressful time for both parents and child.

A low-grade astrocytoma in a sixteen-year-old boy with a 7q11.22 deletion.

We report a patient with developmental delay due to germline AUTS2 mutation who developed a low-grade astrocytoma. While the contribution of this mutation to the pathogenesis of the tumor is not known at this time, a role of AUTS2 in deregulation of PRC1 can be a part in tumorigenesis of a brain tumor.

Mandibular overdentures retained by two implants: 10-year results from a crossover clinical trial comparing ball-socket and bar-clip attachments.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction and clinical and prosthetic outcomes of two-implant mandibular overdenture treatment with different attachment types after 10 years of function.

Materials And Methods: In a crossover clinical trial, 18 edentulous subjects with complaints regarding their mandibular dentures received two implants and a new denture with magnet, ball-socket, or bar-clip attachments that were applied in a random order. At the end of the experiment, the attachment type of their choosing was fitted in the overdenture.
