Background: Floral adaptations supposedly favour pollen grains to cross the numerous barriers faced during their journey to stigmas. Stamen dimorphism and specialized petals, like the cucculus in the Cassieae tribe (Fabaceae), are commonly observed in flowers that offer only pollen as a resource for bee pollinators. Here, we experimentally investigated whether the stamen dimorphism and cucculus enhance pollen placement on the bee's body.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis through Paracoccidioides antibody detection using double immunodiffusion (DID), noting that testing effectiveness can vary based on specific conditions.
  • - The researchers tested DID with 40 serum samples, finding it had a sensitivity of 90% and a perfect specificity of 100% for identifying the disease.
  • - The results indicate that commercially prepared reagents for DID could be a reliable method for detecting anti-Paracoccidioides antibodies in patients.

A seven-month-old, male, domestic short-hair cat was presented with nodular and ulcerative lesions, as well as respiratory signs, caused by Sporothrix brasiliensis infection. Owing to lack of response to oral itraconazole and potassium iodide, isavuconazole was substituted for itraconazole, leading to clinical cure after three months of treatment without adverse effects.

Aims: Elevated left atrial (LA) pressure is a pathophysiologic hallmark of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Chronically elevated LA pressure leads to LA enlargement, which may impair LA function and increase pulmonary pressures. We sought to evaluate the relationship between LA volume and pulmonary arterial haemodynamics in patients with HFpEF.
