Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome: A Case Report of Cyclic Severe Hyperemesis and Abdominal Pain with Long-Term Cannabis Use.

Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) is a rare condition that includes cyclic severe vomiting in subjects who have been consuming large doses of cannabis for several years. One of the major diagnostic criteria is the alleviation of symptoms by hot showers. The syndrome was first described in 2004 and is so far neither completely understood nor well known.

[Screening for colorectal cancer: recommendations].

Colorectal cancer is Europe's most frequent malignancy with an annual incidence of more than 430000 cases and a mortality approaching 50%. Fecal blood tests (guaiac fecal occult blood tests, fecal immunological tests) are primarily designed for early cancer detection. They lack sensitivity and have to be repeated annually to be effective.

Infliximab for the treatment of disseminated pyoderma gangrenosum associated with ulcerative colitis. Case report and literature review.

We report the case of a 19-year-old woman who developed an acute disseminated pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) during a severe flare of ulcerative colitis (UC). She was successfully treated with a 3-dose regimen of the anti-tumor-necrosis-factor-alpha antibody infliximab. The literature on the effectiveness of this biological agent was reviewed, including 8 other cases of UC-associated PG and 77 cases of Crohn's-disease-associated PG.

[Complications of liver cirrhosis: oesophageal varices, ascites and hepato-cellular carcinoma].

The principal treatment for bleeding oesophageal varices is endoscopic ligation. Non-cardioselective beta-blockers are the gold-standard of primary prophylaxis. The principal treatment for ascites is a salt-free diet and diuretics, mainly spironolactone, if necessary associated with a loop diuretic.

[Auto-immune liver diseases and their treatment].

There are three main types of auto-immune liver disease, auto-immune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. In the case of auto-immune hepatitis, prednisone therapy, with or without azathioprine, can improve quality of life and halt progression to cirrhosis. If there is no response or if the therapy is poorly tolerated, mycophenolate mofetil or cyclosporin should be considered.
