In 2019, COVID-19 began one of the greatest public health challenges in history, reaching pandemic status the following year. Systems capable of predicting individuals at higher risk of progressing to severe forms of the disease could optimize the allocation and direction of resources. In this work, we evaluated the performance of different Machine Learning algorithms when predicting clinical outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID-19, using clinical data from hospital admission alone.

Electrodialysis (ED) has already been applied to recover nickel in galvanizing processes, allowing nickel recovery and the production of a treated effluent with demineralized water quality. However, the growth in ED use is still limited by the production and commercialization of ion-selective membranes, currently limited to a few large companies. Therefore, this paper presents the development of homogeneous cationic and anionic membranes made from poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) for ED use.

Bananas and plantains are important staple food crops affected by biotic and abiotic stresses. The gene editing technique via Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats associated with the Cas protein (CRISPR/Cas) has been used as an important tool for development of cultivars with high tolerance to stresses. This study sought to develop a protocol for the construction of vectors for gene knockout.

This work aimed to evaluate the relative gene expression of the candidate genes , , , , and involved in the defense response to Black Sigatoka in banana cultivars Calcutta-4, Krasan Saichon, Grand Nain, and Akondro Mainty, by a quantitative real-time PCR. Biotic stress was imposed on 6-month-old plants during five sampling intervals under greenhouse conditions. The and genes were upregulated for the Calcutta-4- and Krasan Saichon-resistant cultivars, and were validated in this study.

A new sesquiterpene, 8,11-epoxy-cadi-3,9-diene (), along with nine known compounds (-), were isolated from the heartwood of . Their structures were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopic data, and by comparison with data previously reported in literature. The hexane extract from the heartwood of , the EtOH extract from the heartwood of , the CHCl-soluble fraction of the EtOH extract, the EtOAc-soluble fraction of the EtOH extract and the compounds - have been evaluated as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, and among these, the extracts and fractions exhibited satisfactory results.
