Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a developmental delay and autism spectrum disorder (ASD)-like behaviors. Emerging research suggests a link between gut microbiota and neuropsychiatric conditions, including PMS. Nitrification of centrate from anaerobic sewage sludge digestion presents a major opportunity as an electron acceptor in anoxic biogas biodesulphurisation. Nitritation and nitrification inhibition by free ammonia was detected at laboratory scale, but was avoided during the scale-up operation in a 4 m reactor treating ammonium loads up to 19 gN m h. This nitrate-rich stream was fed to two pilot-scale suspended biomass bioreactors (SBBs) treating real biogas for 220 days.

A SULPHUS biotrickling filter (BTF) and an ACTUS polishing activated carbon filter (ACF) were used at a wastewater treatment plant to treat 2,432 m·h of air extracted from sewage sludge processes. The project is part of Thames Water's strategy to reduce customer odour impact and, in this case, is designed to achieve a maximum discharge concentration of 1,000 ou·m. The odour and hydrogen sulphide concentration in the input air was more influenced by the operation of the sludge holding tank mixers than by ambient temperature.

Chemical composition of commercial Origanum compactum and Cinnamomum zeylanicum essential oils and the antifungal activity against pathogenic fungi isolated from Mediterranean rice grains have been investigated. Sixty-one compounds accounting for more than 99.5% of the total essential oil were identified by using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

This paper investigates the removal of isopropanol by gas-phase biotrickling filtration. Two plastic packing materials, one structured and one random, have been evaluated in terms of oxygen mass transfer and isopropanol removal efficiency. Oxygen mass transfer experiments were performed at gas velocities of 104 and 312 m h⁻¹ and liquid velocities between 3 and 33 m h⁻¹.
