The research and modification of semiconductors through different synthesis routes allow obtaining materials with optimal properties to induce new energy levels and improve charge separation efficiency. In this context, the sol-gel method was used to synthesize TiO-based materials doped with different percentages of MnO to evaluate their photocatalytic activity in the degradation of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in water under UV irradiation. Characterization results revealed a reduction in crystallite size to 7.

In the present study, iron-loaded nanostructured sol-gel SiO-Fe materials were prepared and injected into the rat brain to develop a method for gradual iron delivery into the neurons with the aims to avoid acute iron toxicity and develop an animal model of gradual, metal-induced neurodegeneration. Nanoparticles were prepared by the traditional method of hydrolysis and condensation reactions of tetraethyl orthosilicate at room temperature and subsequent heat treatment at 200 °C.

In this work, the feasibility of electrochemical reduction of CO to obtain C-deep value-added products was investigated by the preparation of Mg-containing MOF-74 samples combined with transition metal cations (Ni, Co and Zn). The prepared MOFs were used as electrocatalysts in CORR.

The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction studies, nitrogen physisorption, temperature programmed reduction of H, dehydration of isopropanol, scanning electronic microscopy, transmission electronic microscopy, which were evaluated in the liquid phase oxidation reaction of ethyl tert-butyl ether and tert-amyl methyl ether. The formation of CuAlO and CuAlO in the samples synthesized by sol gel, led to a modification of the texture, thus resulting in an expansion of the specific area of the materials.
