Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how estradiol affects food intake and receptor expression in postmenopausal rats, particularly looking at the neuropeptides VIP and PACAP in specific hypothalamic areas.
  • Results showed that estradiol reduced the expression of the VPAC2 receptor and disrupted the hypophagic (appetite-reducing) effects of VIP, while PACAP continued to suppress food intake.
  • Additionally, estradiol altered plasma glucose and free fatty acid levels in these rats, suggesting different mechanisms in how VIP and PACAP influence energy homeostasis in the context of estrogen loss.

Treatment of the damaged molar often presents a set of challenges unique to the posterior dentition. Traditional dental treatments continue to be refined to improve the prognosis when treating the posterior dentition. Daily treatment-planning decisions include whether to treat with conventional dental or implant therapeutic approaches, and involve consideration of local host factors as well as limitations in specific therapeutic approaches.

Article Synopsis
  • Shosaiko-to (SHO), a traditional Chinese medicine, has shown effectiveness in treating gastric ulcers in addition to its known uses for gastritis and hepatitis, despite the lack of detailed pharmacological studies.
  • In a rat study, SHO significantly reduced the development of gastric lesions caused by various stimuli, such as ethanol and aspirin, with effects observed in a dose-dependent manner.
  • The findings suggest that SHO protects the gastric mucosa and inhibits gastric acid secretion, positioning it as a potential alternative to existing treatments like sucralfate and cimetidine.

The distribution of DNA ploidy levels and its prognostic significance in cervical cancer (including squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma) and endometrial cancer is discussed. DNA aneuploidy was observed in most of the cases with either the histological type of cervical cancer and in half of those with endometrial cancer. The DNA ploidy level of the tumor showed a characteristic distribution according to its histological type or grade.

Tumor DNA content (ploidy) was determined by flow-cytometry (FCM) on tissue from 32 epithelial ovarian cancer patients. Staining for DNA analysis was achieved with Propidium Iodide. Peripheral blood lymphocytes were used as reference diploid cell population.
