A 79 year-old woman was admitted to our institution unconscious with pulmonary edema. She had been trapped by the neck in the electric sliding gate of her own home garage. A pulmonary artery catheter was inserted through the right internal jugular vein and her hemodynamic profile and chest x ray revealed a non cardiogenic pulmonary edema.

We describe a newborn with acute respiratory distress syndrome, subjected to mechanical ventilatory assistance with high level of peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) and positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP), who developed cardiac tamponade due to pneumopericardium. Tension pneumopericardium produces the same physiological derangement as cardiac tamponade secondary to accumulated blood or other fluids. This life-threatening complication demands immediate diagnosis and treatment.

We report a patient with left subclavian artery stenosis in whom the internal thoracic artery (ITA) had been used as a coronary bypass. She presented with symptomatic myocardial and brain ischemia resulting from coronary-subclavian steal syndrome and was successfully treated with angioplasty and stenting.

We report a patient with a cardiac penetrating wound who underwent cardiorrhaphy which resulted in accidental ligation of the proximal right coronary artery (RCA), producing a postoperative acute inferior wall myocardial infarction. Although the option of surgical relief of the suture over the RCA was discussed, a repeat operation was considered to be of very high risk. Therefore, an endovascular attempt to recanalize the vessel was chosen.
