[A Case of Unclassified Sex Cord-Stromal Tumor Containing hCG-Positive Cells].

We present a case of unclassified sex cord-stromal testicular tumor with lung metastasis. A 48-year-old man consulted our hospital for left testicular enlargement that began 3 years ago. Computed tomography revealed a heterogeneously enhanced left testicular tumor 11 cm in diameter and a 5 mm metastatic lung tumor.

Redox-Active Esters in Fe-Catalyzed C-C Coupling.

Cross-couplings of alkyl halides and organometallic species based on single electron transfer using Ni and Fe catalyst systems have been studied extensively, and separately, for decades. Here we demonstrate the first couplings of redox-active esters (both isolated and derived in situ from carboxylic acids) with organozinc and organomagnesium species using an Fe-based catalyst system originally developed for alkyl halides. This work is placed in context by showing a direct comparison with a Ni catalyst for >40 examples spanning a range of primary, secondary, and tertiary substrates.

[A case of meningeal disseminated sarcoidosis with marked hypoglycorrhachia in the CSF].

A 29-year-old man diagnosed as having pulmonary sarcoidosis in 2008, and hypothyroidism secondary to thyroidectomy for Basedow's disease was admitted to our hospital with pustular psoriasis in November 2010. He experienced high fever (38°C) and headache in late October 2010. Gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted image showed multiple micronodular lesions with leptomeningeal enhancement, mainly in the brainstem.

Attenuation of an adult T-cell leukemia skin lesion after treatment of a concomitant herpes simplex infection: a case study.

We report the development and treatment of eczema herpeticum in a 51-year-old male suffering from adult T-cell leukemia (ATL). Lesions of eczema herpeticum coexisted with the skin lesions of ATL. Treatment of eczema herpeticum resulted in a concomitant improvement in the symptoms of ATL, including a reduction in the size of the ATL plaques, for over 2 months before relapse.

Rhodium-catalyzed acyl-transfer reaction between benzyl ketones and thioesters: synthesis of unsymmetric ketones by ketone CO-C bond cleavage and intermolecular rearrangement.

In the presence of catalytic amounts of RhH(CO)(PPh3)3 and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppBz), acyl groups were transferred between benzyl ketones and thioesters/aryl esters. The rhodium complex catalyzed the cleavage of ketone CO-C bonds and intermolecular rearrangement giving unsymmetric ketones. The acyl-transfer reaction also occurred with 1-(p-chlorophenyl)-3-(p-cyanophenyl)propane-2-one giving unsymmetric ketones.
