Background: The incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is higher in patients receiving volatile anesthetics than those receiving total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) with propofol. However, it is unclear whether its incidence is increased when a low concentration of sevoflurane is used in combination with propofol.
Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled trial enrolled women undergoing laparoscopic gynecological surgery.
We have previously reported that agaro-oligosaccharides (AGOs) suppressed the elevated levels of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E₂(PGE₂), and pro-inflammatory cytokines in activated monocytes/macrophages, via heme oxygenase-1 induction. In this report, we initially demonstrated that AGOs intake inhibited NO production in activated peritoneal macrophages. Then, we tested for the ability of AGOs to prevent tumor promotion on the two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis model.

We investigated whether agaro-oligosaccharides have any immunological effects on RAW264.7 mouse macrophages and human monocytes in vitro. We demonstrate that agaro-oligosaccharides suppressed the elevated levels of nitric oxide, prostaglandin E(2), and such pro-inflammatory cytokines as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1beta and interleukin-6 in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated monocytes and macrophages.

Fish reared at three temperatures (17 degrees C, 24 degrees C, and 29 degrees C) from hatching were sampled weekly until 11 weeks and their gonads were examined by histology. The percentages of females at 17 degrees C, 24 degrees C, and 29 degrees C were 100%, 73%, and 0%, respectively.
