Article Synopsis
  • Normocalcemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT) leads to excess secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH), increasing bone resorption and potentially affecting periodontal health due to shared pathological mechanisms.* -
  • A study involving 86 NPHPT patients and 87 controls evaluated bone density and periodontal status, revealing that NPHPT patients had a higher incidence of severe periodontitis compared to the control group.* -
  • The findings suggested a significant relationship between NPHPT and periodontitis, with NPHPT patients having 1.78 times greater odds of developing periodontitis, linked to increased PTH levels and decreased vitamin D affecting bone density.*

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the impact of gingivitis on inflammation and cardiovascular risks in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
  • The research involved three groups of participants: two with PCOS (one with gingivitis and one without) and a control group, all assessed for various health indicators and inflammatory markers.
  • Results indicated that PCOS patients, especially those with gingivitis, had higher levels of systemic inflammation and more aggressive neutrophil behavior, which may increase the risk of atherosclerosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Idiopathic infertility affects over 186 million people globally, and its management is complicated by comorbidities; periodontal diseases may worsen infertility by increasing inflammation and insulin resistance.
  • A systematic review analyzed high-quality studies involving 4,871 patients and found an association between low-grade chronic inflammation linked to periodontal diseases and idiopathic infertility conditions like obesity and type 2 diabetes.
  • Results showed a higher prevalence of periodontal disease in infertile patients; mechanisms include proinflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and insulin resistance that may connect infertility with periodontal health issues.

Background: Zebrafish are widely used in various research fields and to fulfil the diverse research needs, numerous zebrafish lines are available, each with a unique domestication background, potentially resulting in intraspecies differences in specific biological functions. Few studies have compared multiple zebrafish lines under identical conditions to investigate both inter- and intra-line variability related to different functions. However, such variability could pose a challenge for the reproducibility of results in studies utilising zebrafish, particularly when the line used is not clearly specified.

To evaluate the effect of adhesive coats application on the enamel microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of universal adhesives, morphological etching pattern and their chemical interaction with hydroxyapatite (HA). Two universal adhesives were investigated: Scotchbond Universal (SBU, 3 M) and Prime&Bond Universal (PBU, Dentsply). The adhesives were applied in self-etching mode on bovine enamel (n = 8) in one (1L), two (2L) or three coats (3L) and light-cured as per manufacturers' instructions.
