Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown on Cancer Diagnoses Using Swiss Cantonal Cancer Registry Data.

This study aims to investigate differences in cancer diagnosis based on absolute case numbers and age-standardized incidence rate ratios (IRRs) in the pre-Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) years (2018/19) and the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020, 2021) in two Swiss cantons. : Data of the Swiss cantonal cancer registry of the cantons of Zurich (ZH) and Zug (ZG) were used to descriptively investigate differences in annual and monthly absolute numbers regarding all-cancer and the five most common cancer types. Directly age-standardized monthly incidence rates (IRs) were calculated.

Cancer cases attributable to modifiable lifestyle risk factors in Switzerland between 2015 and 2019.

Several modifiable lifestyle risk factors have been linked to higher cancer risk in the literature. Determining the proportion and number of cancer cases attributable to these risk factors is pivotal in informing effective cancer prevention and control plans that have the greatest effect on reducing cancer incidence. We aimed to estimate the proportion and number of incident cancer cases that were attributable to modifiable lifestyle risk factors (ie, tobacco smoking, high alcohol consumption, excess body weight, physical inactivity and unhealthy diet) in Switzerland between 2015 and 2019.

The Association between Liver Enzymes and Mortality Stratified by Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: An Analysis of NHANES III.

Associations between liver enzymes or De Ritis ratio (DRR; aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/alanine aminotransferase (ALT)) and mortality stratified by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which have rarely been analyzed in previous studies, were investigated using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) III (1988-1994). Participants without risk factors for liver diseases other than NAFLD were linked with National Death Index records through 2019 ( = 11,385) and divided into two cohorts with or without NAFLD, based on ultrasound examination. Liver enzyme concentrations were categorized into sex-specific deciles and subsequently grouped (AST and ALT: 1-3, 4-9, 10; gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT): 1-8, 9-10).

Some Information Measures Properties of the GOS-Concomitants from the FGM Family.

In this paper we recall, extend and compute some information measures for the concomitants of the generalized order statistics (GOS) from the Farlie-Gumbel-Morgenstern (FGM) family. We focus on two types of information measures: some related to Shannon entropy, and some related to Tsallis entropy. Among the information measures considered are residual and past entropies which are important in a reliability context.

Implementation of a Best Practice Advisory to Improve Infection Screening Prior to New Prescriptions of Biologics and Targeted Synthetic Drugs.

Objective: Use of biologic and targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (b/tsDMARDs) in patients with preexisting tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis B virus (HBV), or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can have serious consequences. Although various society guidelines recommend routine screening for these infections before initiating certain b/tsDMARDs, adherence to these recommendations varies widely. This quality improvement initiative evaluated local compliance with screening and assessed whether an automated computerized decision support system in the form of a best practice advisory (BPA) in the electronic health record could improve patient screening.
