Ocular pressure was measured in 60 patients under neuroleptanalgesia with three different modes of induction (N2O, ketamine, thiopentone), during abdominal operations lasting at least one hour. The effect of premedication, of three different induction agents and of decurarisation on intraocular pressure were tested. It became apparent that after premedication and during the induction stage a decline of intraocular pressure (IOP) occured but did not last longer than 60 minutes.

Various forms of inhalation anaesthesia with enflurane were carried out in 30 patients. An attempt was made to eliminate all the factors influencing the intraocular pressure (IOP), and to record the behaviour of blood pressure, pulse rate and IOP with the gradual increase of concentration of enflurane. Results are discussed and the use of the inhalation anaesthetic enflurane is recommended for intra-ocular operations.

In 50 intubated patients the changes of pressure in the interior of the cuff were recorded during various methods of narcosis for 30 min. The results were evaluated statistically and interpreted with respect to the difference in the gas mixture and time. A linear increase of inner pressure in the cuff was established.

In 58 children below the age of 12 with strabismus operations were performed under anesthesia with Ketamine. Continuous and discontinuous modes of application were selected with varying premedication. Blood-pressure and pulse-rate, the occurence of oculo cardial reflex (OCR) and narcotic requirement were registered and discussed with regard to premedication and specific modes of application.
